Ashley J. "A" Peterson

WHITESBORO – On Monday, May 18, 2026, at the age of 35, Ashley J. “A” Peterson gained her wings. At the time of her passing, she was in the hearts of those she loved the most. Ashley was born on May 3, 1991, in Utica, the youngest of three daughters born to Irma Peterson. She attended Martin Luther King Elementary School and Donovan Middle School before graduating from T. R. Proctor High School in 2009. Following high school, Ashley attended HCCC, where she pursued nursing studies. Dedicated to caring for others, she worked for several local nursing homes and healthcare agencies as a CNA and also embraced her time as a traveling healthcare professional. Ashley also worked in customer service at Walmart in New Hartford. Above all else, Ashley loved being a mother to her daughter and son, never forgetting her son, Lamonte. She was a passionate mother who treasured every moment spent with her children, especially time engaging in outdoor activities including educational trips to the zoo, playing at the park, or taking in the scenery of Sylvan Beach. Ashley relished time spent with her friends, especially her best friend, Jas, with whom she celebrated each other’s birthdays, at one of their favorite restaurants, Red Lobster. She was an avid reader who especially enjoyed romance and action publications. Ashley also loved old-school R&B music and could often be found dancing and singing at family gatherings. One of her favorite television shows was ”Girlfriends,” and she was a devoted fan of Tyler Perry movies and productions. Known for her sense of humor, Ashley had a way of making everyone around her laugh. She was affectionately known for her “right down the middle” personality. She lovingly greeted her sisters by calling them “Sista.” As the baby of the family, she was adored and spoiled by both her mother and sisters. Ashley cherished family gatherings and holidays, especially Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthdays, and Halloween. A member of Christ Temple Church, Ashley embraced her Pentecostal faith, which gave her strength, hope, and guidance. Ashley leaves to cherish her memory her loving mother, Irma Peterson; her daughter, LaiAna R. Peterson; and son, Le’Vaugn R. Peterson. She also lovingly remembered her son, Lamonte’ R. Peterson, who became an angel on July 2, 2025, at the tender age of 6. She is further survived by her sisters, Inisha Gibbs and Tunde Bakarr, and Natasha “Nikki” Thompkins and her husband, John; nieces and nephews, Naysean, Donnisha, Lamarion, Anylah, Saniah, Aisauni, and Elijah; great-niece, Emarie; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless dear friends. She also leaves behind a host of people who had a special impact in her life, Sharon Hawkins, Krystal Saxe, Shannon Ferguson, Jasmine and Phylicia Hunter, Jahlani, and AJ Hawkins. Ashley was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Eli Peterson and Barbara Jean Wright; and maternal great-grandparents, Eli and Adelle (Colman) Wright. Ashley’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians and staff of Wynn Hospital’s Emergency Department and ICU East for the exceptional care, compassion, and support shown to Ashley and her loved ones. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., Utica, corner of Hammond Ave. Ashley’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Sharon Hawkins. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
