Antonio Joseph "Boogs" Almond

Antonio Joseph “Boogs” Almond, age 3, of Frankfort, went to live with the angels on Saturday, August 11, 2007, when he passed away unexpectedly at his home. Born February 6, 2004, Antonio was the son of Jacquelyn M. Almond. He also knew the love and guidance of his grandparents who adopted him, ‘Me Ma’ Bernadette (Tomaino) and ‘Poppie’ Donald J. Almond III. He attended school at the United Cerebral Palsy Corsanti Children’s Center in Utica. He loved going to school, and especially enjoyed his time on the playground. Antonio’s mother was truly kind and loving in sharing her gift of life, her son, with her mother. Affectionate, loving, and outgoing, Antonio was the love of his ‘Me Ma’s’ life, her world, her angel. His uncle Bernie was his idol. He called him ‘Tio’ and ‘daddy’, and he looked to him as being his own father. They spent a lot of time together as a father and son would do. His aunt Victoria, who is his mother’s twin sister, was also a mother to him; he would call her mommy and spend much time with her. His ‘Titi Lizzy’ was his playmate who he would ask to ‘fix my toys’. He, his ‘sissie’ Juliana, and his cousin ‘Antony’ spent hours together at play. His great-grandmother ‘Nana’ would get him on and off the bus for school and share lunch with him every day. Antonio was a spirited youngster, fast-moving and energetic. He loved to watch Batman and Spiderman; they were his favorites. He also enjoyed Buzz Lightyear, Woody, and Shrek. He always shared his toys with everyone and would greet them when they entered by running to the door to give them a ‘high five’. He also loved his pets, ‘Ma’, ‘Gucci’, ‘Spook’, ‘Baby’, and the newborn puppies. Antonio’s life was blessed by his additional survivors, his great-grandmothers, Rose Marie (Damiano) Tomaino of Frankfort, and Janet (Almond) Prosser of St. Petersburg, Florida; his uncle, Bernie Almond who was his ‘big brother’; and his aunts, Victoria Almond, and Elizabeth Almond and fiancé Donald Switzer. He is also survived by his brother Jordano and sister Gabriella; his cousins Juliana, Anthony, Calejio, and Harmonee; and several great-aunts and great-uncles including Deborah and Lester Phillips, Valerie and Michael McPeters, his godparents Stephen and Roberta Almond, Michael and Mary Almond, Robert Almond and Maria Dion, Pastor Thomas and Jacqeline Almond, and Anita Carrier. He also leaves several family friends who were considered his family: Billie Flagg, Andrea Stillwell, Fred Thur, Nicki McManus, Sharon and Mario LoMedico, Mark Lomedico, Josh Tubia, Kristal Speziale, Justin Vallone, Peter Leone, Chelsea Rosati, Tuly, Joanne Palladino, and so many others who would visit and spend time with Antonio. The family would like to especially thank Paul Sardina of the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department who ran from his home in a courageous attempt to revive Antonio. We would also like to thank Freddy DeStefano and every one of the EMT’s and the staff of the Faxton-St. Luke’s Emergency Room for their efforts; Father John Flanagan, as well as Cathy Bohen, Andrea Mazza, Carol Feducci, Janet Kara, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Britton, and Heidi Worden. Thank you also to Dr. Vashistha Sanjeev who was with Antonio from birth to his passing to the angels. And thank you to all those who we may not have mentioned but were also there for Antonio. Visitation will be held Wednesday (today) from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Antonio’s funeral service will commence on Thursday morning at 8:30 from the funeral home and at 9:30 from Historic Old St. John’s Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will take place at Calvary Mausoleum at the convenience of the family
