Antoinette "Nettie" (Mondi) Angrisano

Mrs. Antoinette “Nettie” (Mondi) Angrisano, age 96, of Frankfort Center, passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24, 2006, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her family by her side. Born in Utica on November 11, 1910, Antoinette was the daughter of the late Frank and Nicolina (Minutti) Mondi. She was raised and educated locally. On February 12, 1929 she was joined in marriage with Joseph R. Angrisano, with whom she shared 53 years until his passing on December 29, 1982. Compatible and well suited to each other’s company, they were a great couple who enjoyed family life. Antoinette began her working career at the Oneita Knitting Mill. Subsequently, she worked for many years at O’Scugnizzo’s Pizzeria on Bleecker St., and was affectionately known to her co-workers and patrons as Aunt Nettie. She retired at the accomplished age of 80. She did volunteer work for three years, beginning at the age of 90, offering her time to the office staff of the Masonic Care Community. As an honorary member of the Frankfort Center Fire Department Ladies Auxillary, she performed as “Mrs. Santa Claus” for over 25 years, as recently as this current holiday season. She was a person of service to others, well respected, well remembered, and greatly loved. Her pride and joy was that she had been blessed with 5 generations of her family, including grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, totaling 42, and often proudly shared this legacy with others. During her leisure time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and working with arts and crafts. She was also entertained by television programs including Wheel of Fortune, Judge Wapner, Judge Judy, and Jeopardy. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, and had a personal belief and commitment to daily prayer. Antoinette is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Vincenza and Thomas Gelfuso of Frankfort Center, Nicoletta Fiorentino of New Hartford, and Elaine A. Angrisano who resided and cared so devotedly for her mom; and her son, Aniello “Neal” Angrisano of Frankfort Center. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren. Always close to her heart was the memory of her grandson, Eugene Fiorentino, Jr., who passed away on May 19, 2003. She also leaves 27 great-grandchildren remembering Louis Gelfuso, Jr., who also preceded her in death; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Her extended family includes her nieces, with special mention of Lillian Bassone, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, especially Antoinette Nuccio; and her in-law, Vera Mondi. She was favored with a dear friend, Josephine Dichiera, and was blessed with wonderful neighbors, with special recognition of Dawn Kealy, who respected Nettie as a mother. She was predeceased by her brothers, Dominick, Frank, and Peter Mondi; her sisters, Beatrice Lombardo, and Nicheletta Massi; and her son-in-law, Eugene Fiorentino, Sr. The family offers its sincere appreciation to Dr. Tatjana Mondom, who tended to Nettie with love and care, and to the St. Elizabeth Medical Center ICU staff, especially Bill. Their kind, gentle care was of great comfort to Nettie’s family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday (today) from 4-8 at the Eannace Funeral Home, 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Antoinette’s funeral will commence on Thurday morning at 10:30 from the funeral home and at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish at Mt. Carmel Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
