Anthony J. "Goody" Gurdo

Mr. Anthony J. “Goody” Gurdo, age 91, of Utica, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on August 17, 1917, Anthony was the son of the late Pasquale and Maria (Distante) Gurdo. He was raised and educated locally. On April 26, 1941, in Rome, NY, he married the former Evelyn “Rita” Carnebianca with whom he shared 60 years prior to her passing on November 12, 2001. Throughout their entire union, they maintained a steadfast commitment to each other and created countless memories of their wonderful life together. At one time, Goody held employment with the Brunner Manufacturing Company, and was lastly employed by the Munson Williams Proctor Institute as a member of the maintenance crew. Charitable of heart, he will be remembered by the many families he would assist by providing his plumbing expertise. A devoted and committed husband, and a loving father and grandfather, Goody was blessed with a helpful nature, and was always there for family and friends. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Anthony is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick A., Sr. and Jacklyn Gurdo, and Edmond J., Sr. and Theresa Gurdo, all of Utica; and his grandchildren, Patrick A. Gurdo, Jr. of Utica, Edmond J., Jr. and Heidi Gurdo of Middleton, DE, and Mary Beth Gurdo of Utica. Survivors also include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, many special cousins, and sister-in-law, Vincenza “Jean” Illi of Utica. He was predeceased by an infant sister; and his in-laws. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of the St. Luke’s Home, especially Barton North, and the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Critical Care Unit at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center for their professional care and compassion. Also, a thank you is offered to the many local area clergy who attended to Anthony and the spiritual needs of his family. Visitation will be held Wednesday (today) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Anthony’s funeral service will commence on Thursday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
