Anthony F. Arrigo

Mr. Anthony F. Arrigo, age 63, of Sauquoit, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 with his family by his side. Born in Utica on September 21, 1945, Anthony was the son of the late Mariano N. and Antoinette “Toni” (Punzi) Arrigo. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of T. R. Proctor High School. Anthony was employed by the Herkimer A.R.C. for many years, retiring in 1995. Because he truly enjoyed being of service to others, he was well-suited for his job. A great listener, Anthony was a compassionate son, father, grandfather, and friend. He was loyal in his commitments to his family and children, and he lived life with meaning and appreciation. He was also proud of his Italian heritage, was termed a history enthusiast and partook in many yearly “rendezvous”. A true outdoorsman, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Autumn was a special time of the year for Anthony as he looked forward to his weekend trips to the cabin at Split Rock Lodge in the Adirondacks, a place of peace and serenity. He and a special group of guys shared this sacred place and season. He pursued a variety of hobbies including buying and selling on eBay, pistol shooting, jewelry making, and collecting antiques, particularly pottery and glassware. A fan of western movies, he was in admiration of his favorite actor, John Wayne. Anthony is survived by his beloved children, Maria L. Arrigo and fiancé Christopher Sequin; Anthony J. Arrigo and fiancée Jennifer Chase, all of Utica, and their mom, Charlotte (Dagwell) Arrigo; his grandchildren, Marianna and Nicholas; and Jeremiah and Julianna; and his special friend, Diane Wedemeyer, who has been a source of strength during his illness. Survivors also include his sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Bob Royster; and his aunt, Louise Zizzi, all of CA; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. He was blessed with a great group of loyal friends including Tony, Dick, Bill, Howard, Carl, Franny, and many others. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Lou Nassimos; and his special friends, Camillo Benzo, and Jimmy Orience. The family extends appreciation to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. for enabling Anthony to remain in the comfort of his home while respecting his privacy and providing peace of mind, with special mention of Navaz and Lisa. A truly grateful thank you is offered to the caretakers and volunteers of the Abraham House who opened their home during the last day of his journey. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00-5:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings; memorial contributions may be made to the family. Anthony’s funeral service will commence on Monday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery.
