Anthony Angelo Sciortino, Jr.

UTICA - Anthony Angelo Sciortino, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully with family by his side on June 15, 2026, in Utica, New York, where he was born and spent his life. He was 78 years old. Born on January 21, 1948, Anthony was the son of the late Anthony Charles Sciortino Sr. and Frances (Forte) Sciortino. A proud product of Utica, he was a graduate of T.R. Proctor Senior High School, Class of 1966. On April 3, 1976, he married the love of his life, Linda Hanna, and together they shared 50 blessed years of marriage. Throughout his years, Anthony devoted himself to his work. He worked for the Utica City Parks Department, the Utica City School District, and the former Saint Joseph’s Nursing Home, a career that reflected his quiet dedication to the people around him. Anthony was a man of Catholic faith, which guided and grounded him throughout his life. He had a love for baseball, history, and a good book. He could often be found tending to his garden, fishing, bowling, or enjoying old movies and classic television. He enjoyed his visits to Turning Stone and Vernon Downs Casinos. In his later years, he grew especially fond of a pit bull named Buster, whose companionship brought him great happiness. Among his most treasured joys were his grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Boompa.” He adored them deeply, filling their days with playtime and trips to the park. He also cherished a friendship of over 60 years with his best friend, David Cardamone, a bond that spoke volumes about the kind of loyal and steadfast man Anthony was. Anthony is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his children, Jennifer, Melissa, and Andrew; his four grandchildren, Jared and Jared’s fiancée Milany, Daniel Jr., Sydney, and Hunter; his son-in-law, Daniel Sr.; his sister, Elizabeth Liberatore; his sister-in-law, Diane Hanna; and his nephew, Mark, and Mark’s fiancée, Deborah. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Charles Sciortino Sr. and Frances (Forte) Sciortino; his sister, Marie; his in-laws, John and Rosa Hanna; and his brothers-in-law, Sidney and John Jr. Hanna. Anthony Angelo Sciortino, Jr., “Shorts” to those who knew him well, “Boompa” to those who loved him most. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Wynn Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion during this difficult time. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Anthony’s Memorial Service which will commence on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Louis Gonzaga Church, 520 Rutger St., where the Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated by Father Boutros El Hachem. There will be an opportunity to greet the family at the conclusion of the service.
