Mr. Anthony J. Saporito

Mr. Anthony J. Saporito, age 85, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 in the privacy of his home. Born in Utica on November 24, 1930, Anthony was the son of the late Vincent and Antoinette (Covello) Saporito. He was raised in Utica and attended local schools. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Anthony honorably served his country from 1950-1953. Following his military service, he enrolled in culinary school. For many years, Anthony was employed as a gifted chef and certified baker at the Hotel Utica, the Hamilton Hotel, and at St. Elizabeth Hospital, the position from which he retired. A very generous and giving man, Anthony was one-of-a-kind. Simple and humble of heart, he always greeted you with a welcoming smile. He enjoyed gathering with family for festive occasions and holiday celebrations. He had a wonderful sense of humor and never spoke ill of anyone. Anthony had an affinity for many activities: he loved classic movies, music (especially old classic country), and all sports. Although he always spoke well of the Yankees, deep down he was a devotee of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. He was a member of the American Legion and the former Sons of Italy Lodge #2054. Anthony is survived by his sister, Jane M. Doti of Utica; his brother and sister-in-law, Frank R. and Nita K. Saporito of N. Utica; his nieces and nephews (who thought the world of Anthony), Carl Saporito, Susan and Robert Longo, John and Mary Anne Doti, Janice and Zeke LeFrois, Frank and Gina Saporito, Jeffrey Saporito, Frank and Kim Saporito, Joseph Saporito, Maria Chapman, and Sarah Burgess; his great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Mavis Saporito of Clinton, Donna Saporito of Utica; and Angie Doti of Utica who was like a sister to Anthony. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Guy Saporito, James and Helen Saporito, Joseph and Betty Saporito; and his nephew, David Saporito; and his brother-in-law, Rocco A. Doti. Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Anthony’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Monday evening at 6:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation with Rev. Anthony LaFache officiating the ceremony. Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum at the convenience of the family. Anthony, we loved you as a brother and uncle. Rest in Peace.
