Mrs. Annie "Anne" (Ostrander) Longley-Pickens

Mrs. Annie “Anne” (Ostrander) Longley-Pickens, age 92, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2014 in the comfort of her home with her daughters by her side. Born in Detroit, Michigan on June 30, 1922, Annie was the daughter of the late Harold and Catherine (Curley) Ostrander. She resided in Utica for most of her life, attending Utica Catholic Academy and graduating from Utica Free Academy/Class of 1940. At one time, Anne was married to E. Raymond Longley. She was blessed with a second union when she wed Harley L. Pickens who preceded her in death in 1985. During her working life, Anne held a position with the Utica Mutual Insurance Company in the Typing Department, retiring in 1982 after 25 years of service. Anne offered her time, energy, and services by volunteering to work in the Public Relations office at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center and also at the Palm View Health Care Center in Port Charlotte, Florida. At different periods of time during her life, Annie resided in California and Florida. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Annie is survived by her daughters, Anne Longley Palladino Lawson of CA, and Jeanne D. Longley of Utica with whom she resided for many years and by whom she was cared for so lovingly. She will also be remembered by her 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson. Her extended family includes many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and sisters-in-law, Marie Ostrander, and Delores Ostrander, both of CA. She was predeceased by her brothers, Harold Ostrander, Jr., and John Ostrander; and her sister and brother-in-law, Cecilia and Harry Miller. The family is grateful to the staff of Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. for their vigilance and compassion in caring for Anne. Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc, 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish or Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., in lieu of floral offerings; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Annie’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 from the funeral home and at 2:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum at the convenience of the family.
