Anna L. (Moreno) Scianni

Mrs. Anna L. (Moreno) Scianni, age 93, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at the St. Joseph Nursing Home with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on August 20, 1913, Anna was the daughter of the late Rocco and Rose (Zanio) Moreno. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of Boonville High School. On November 27, 1935 she was united in marriage with Lawrence C. Scianni who passed away on January 31, 1984. The couple shared a blessed union of 48 years that was filled with much love, devotion, enjoyable occasions, and travels. During her working years, Anna was employed at the Worker’s Compensation Board for Oneida County, prior to her retirement in 1979. Among her personal attributes, she was religious, gentle, loving, and compassionate. Endowed with self-confidence and a dynamic personality, her life ‘exemplified goodness’, and she found the best qualities in everyone. She embraced a very domestic lifestyle and took pleasure in gardening, baking, and crocheting. Her weekly pinochle games with her friends, games of chance, and her weekend trips to her camp at North Bay were her favorite leisure activities. Among her civic affiliations, she was a member of the Sons of Italy Utica Lodge #2054, the East Side Senior Center, and the Daughters of Columbus where she served as past president and held various offices. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Anna will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother by her daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Joseph Cifarelli of New Hartford, Lorraine and Ame Jweid of Utica, with whom she resided, and Melanie and Ron Usyk of Marcy. Always close to her heart was the memory of her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Franklin Stooks who preceded her in death. Also surviving are her grandchildren and their families, Joseph and Elizabeth Cifarelli, John and Edith Cifarelli, James and Suzanne Cifarelli, Lisa and David Holmes, Melanie and Dr. Mahesh Padmanabhan, Christopher Usyk, Carol Ann and Raymond Mahar, Eric and Cherie Stooks, Mark and Carrie Stooks, and Michele and Mark Kuchera; her 18 great-grandchildren, and the anticipated arrival of another; her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Mary Palmiero, Kitty Moreno, and Jane Moreno. She also leaves many cherished friends. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Varassi, Theresa Rubino, Philomena Panicca, and Frances Givonetti; and her brothers, Frank, Daniel, and John Moreno. The family offers their thanks to the nurses and staff of the St. Joseph Nursing Home, especially acknowledging Shirley, Stacey, Colleen, Melissa, and Brenda for the loving care they rendered to Anna. Throughout the years, Anna was blessed with many devoted friends and caregivers who enriched her life. Visitation will be held Sunday (today) from 2:00 – 5:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Mrs. Scianni’s honor to a charity of your choice; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Anna’s funeral service will commence on Monday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
