Alfred S. Carbone, Sr.

Mr. Alfred S. Carbone, Sr., age 89, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 12, 2006, in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on May 4, 1917, Alfred was the son of the late Joseph and Maria Theresa (Gelfuso) Carbone. Raised and educated in Utica, he was proud to be a member of the Conservation Corps. On February 27, 1943 he married the former Mary E. Rozonkiewiecz. The couple shared a loving and dedicated union of 63 years. They were inseparable. Alfred was a self-employed professional painter and for many years he was honored to work alongside his son, Al. A good, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, his love revolved around his family. He shared a special relationship with each of his children, and they always admired the way their Dad adored and treated their Mom. He was ever supportive of his family and humanitarian to anyone in need. Blessed with physical and mental strength, Alfred enjoyed gardening and maintaining the homestead. He especially enjoyed the time spent with his loved ones camping and fishing at the family camp at White Lake. A very spiritual man, he would invite those he loved to share in praying the daily rosary. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church, and he was proud of his status as Noble Knight in the Knights of St. John, Commandery #385, and the Nocturnal Adoration Society. Mr. Carbone is survived by his wife, Mary E.; his daughters and a son-in-law, Katherine and Thomas Bronk; and Theresa Carbone, all of Utica; and his sons and daughters-in-law, Alfred “Al” S. Carbone, Jr. of Cold Brook, NY and Jacqueline of Utica, and Joseph “Joe” and Mary Carbone of Glendale, AZ. He was blessed with the relationship that he shared with Eddie and Carmella Nassimos of Frankfort, whom he considered a son and daughter-in-law; also very dear and close friends, Lee Wheeler and her son, Shawn. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Thomas Jr. and Erika Bronk, Mary and Chris Wiater; Regina (Carbone) and William Rosell, and Renee Carbone; he cherished the memory of his grandson, Alfred III, who passed away in 1975; Christy Chapman, Josie (Nassimos) and David Oliver, Angela Nassimos, and Michele (Nassimos) and Bill Cook. In addition, he leaves his great-grandchildren, Owen David Bronk; Katherine, Arianna, Mackenzie, and Christopher Wiater; William, Zachary, and Benjamin Rosell; Taylor, and Madison Oliver; and Alexandra Cook. Also surviving are his sister, Rose Condon of Utica; his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; many special friends; and his canine companion, Kowie. He was predeceased by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth “Betty” and Clint Merrick, Katie and Steve Glinski, and Margaret and Cy Hale; his brothers and sisters-in-law, John, Sr. and Theresa Carbone, Frank and Ang Carbone, and James and Rita Carbone. The family offers its heartfelt thanks to the Utica Fire Department, Rescue One, and Kunkel’s Ambulance for their primary attention and concern; to Dr. Samson Pachikara, family physician, for his care and friendship; and to the members of the Senior Network (especially Sandy), for their vigilance and guidance. Visitation will be held today (Monday) from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The Knights of St. John will offer ritualistic services on Monday at 6:30 at the funeral home. Mr. Carbone’s funeral will commence on Tuesday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
