Mr. Albert J. "AJ" Hill

UTICA – Mr. Albert J. “AJ” Hill, age 76, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, with his loving family by his side. Born in Belle Glade, FL on August 19, 1947, Albert was the son of the late Amos, Sr., and Thelma (Scott) Hill. As a young boy, AJ and his family came to Utica where he was raised and educated. He was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. At one time AJ was married to Mildred Louise “Sister” Blackshear, who passed away on March 25, 2016. He later shared a companionship with Janet Blair. For many years, AJ held employment with Conrail Railroad as a foreman, the position from which he retired. AJ’s work ethic and leadership were evident in his commitment to his role and the respect he garnered from his colleagues. AJ’s family was the main focus of his existence. He was a patriarch who embraced his role with love and dedication. He possessed a beautiful sense of humor and was always ready to share a good joke and make those around him laugh. He was steadfast in his convictions and his opinions on matters were shared openly. He had a spunk about him that those close to him cherished. AJ loved his family and friends and enjoyed the camaraderie of his buddies. He had a love for fishing, and you could always find him at the local OTB. He had a sharp sense of style and he loved to step out looking good everywhere he went. He is survived by his children and their loves, Mildred "Poochie" Hill, Thelma and Kevin Lockhart, Albert Hill, Donelle "Donny" and Lakeshia Hill, and Tina "Matree" Hill & Craig Jackson; his cherished grandchildren, Mark Brooks, Juanita Hill, Gloria Weathers, Michelle Richardson; Mikyiah, Jaheim, Brandon, Kahari; Cahsim Hill, Caleigh Hill-Jackson, Caydence Hill, Cashae Jackson, and Casiyah Jackson; great-grandchildren, Kash; Donquie, Dy-mere, Jahdir, Jarah; A’mere, and the late Judea Hill; his loving partner, Janet Blair; sister, Juanita Wallace; brothers and sister-in-law, Leroy Hill, and George and Juanita Hill. AJ fondly remembered his siblings who preceded him, Minnie Johnson, Mamie Hill, Edward Hill, Amos Hill, Jr., and Naomi Hill. He leaves to cherish his memory many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; and friends especially acknowledging Joe Allen, Doug Brown, George Gaston, Knock, Rodney, String, Rev. George Clarke, Walt Savage, Maryann Bullock, and his neighbor Alan. He also enjoyed time spent with his friends at the Over Club and his buddies from Conrail. AJ was additionally predeceased by his nieces, Lavern, and Joyce; and nephews, Odell Wallace, Jr., Tyrone Hill, and Tony Hill. The family extends their gratitude to Dr. Tkatch for his professionalism, and security staff members at Wynn Hospital Carl Stubbs, and K’wan Thomas, for their care, compassion, and hospitality during AJ’s final days. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Interment will take place in New Forest Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
