Mr. Aaron Jacob Mims, Sr.

UTICA – Mr. Aaron Jacob Mims, Sr., age 40, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 7, 2025, meeting his sunset and reuniting with his loved ones who had gone before him. Aaron's sunrise began in Utica on August 3, 1985. He was the beloved son of Michael Allen and the late Loretta Mims. From a young age, he found a second home at the Greater Holy Temple Church of Jesus Christ, where he developed a strong foundation of faith and remained a proud and devoted member throughout his life. Aaron graduated from T.R. Proctor High School and went on to continue his education at Utica College. Throughout his career, Aaron held a variety of roles, including positions at Granny’s Kitchen, TLC Lighting—where he served as a supervisor—and most recently, Special Metals. He was known in the workplace for his respectful demeanor, strong work ethic, and dependable competence. Pleasant and kind, Aaron was the type of person who always wore a smile, brightening the day of those around him. Aaron was an independent, laid-back man who loved to enjoy life. He was deeply devoted to his family. For nearly 17 years, he shared a loving relationship with Cynthia Ruffin, and together they were blessed with children whom Aaron adored. He was an amazing dad. There was nothing he wouldn’t do or make time for his children. In his downtime, he enjoyed watching sports, engaging in spirited political debates, and traveling. Above all, he cherished spending time with his loved ones, especially during family gatherings. His all-too-early departure from this world has left a hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Aaron is survived by his wife, Cynthia Ruffin Mims; father, Michael Allen and Shirley; and children, Aaron J. Mims, Jr., Mykale Mims, Shuniya, Robert, Robreaisa, and Rosear. He was preceded by Eugene Jr., who passed away on April 20, 2020. He is further survived by his brother, Osland Mims; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins he shared a special bond of siblinghood with, Dia Allen-Hayes, Duane House, Dennis Allen, Jr., Willy Frank Dixson, Jr., and Desiree Allen-Potts; a host of aunts and uncles, Dennis & Janie Allen, Kenny Allen; and his aunts & uncles of the Mims family; and in-laws, Tracy Ruffin, Jennifer Ruffin, and Anita Ruffin. Also left to remember Aaron is his special family friend, Connie. He was additionally predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Milton and Mary (Dixon) Allen; aunt and uncles, Carolyn Allen, Ronnie Allen, Milton Allen, Jr., and Willie Frank Dixon, Sr.; and cousins, Ronnie Allen Monahan, Chanel Allen, and Demetrius Warner. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Greater Holy Temple Church of Jesus Christ, 1309 Howard Ave. Aaron’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 12:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
