May 18, 1948 - May 24, 2021
UTICA - Mrs. Sharon L. (Moyer) Mazza, age 73, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 24, 2021 with her beloved family by her side, after many courageous battles with health issues. Born in Utica on May 18, 1948, Sharon was the daughter of the late Howard W. and Angeline “Dolly” (Seminaro) Moyer. She attended Roosevelt Elementary School and was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1966. On May 17, 1969 she married James E. Mazza and from that day forward, they shared absolute trust and support for one another. They held each other in their hearts and comforting hands throughout their 52-year union. Sharon was employed by the Oneida National Bank/Main Branch as an Administrative Assistant to the Vice President. She also worked at John F. Hughes Elementary School as a Teacher’s Aide, a position that allowed her the opportunity to have a compassionate heart for children. Sharon was sensitive to the individual needs of every child. She came to know the blessing of one particular student who was in need of extra attention, and she often gave her a kiss that left her “lipstick imprint” on her forehead, and forever that relationship was remembered. That was not an uncommon act for those she came to know. She was a loving mother who was unconditionally there for her kids; they knew how much they were loved and cared for. She was artistic on many levels, and she created their extravagant costumes, as well as everyday clothing. She also masterfully made the most decorative, over-the-top cakes that they will never forget. She was wise when passing her wisdom to her children, and among other lessons, they learned to silently give. Her house was the place to gather, and her door was always open. Sharon became a wonderful cook with the guidance of her mother-in-law, Angeline. Holidays were special to her, and she always made Christmas magical. She could make you believe that Santa really existed and that there truly was an Easter Bunny! Her family was a blessing and her children and grandchildren filled her heart and made her life complete. When “Mammie” was in the company of her grandchildren, she glowed, and the word “no” was never in her vocabulary. There were never any rules ~ another layer of her love! Her love did not stop there. Along with her sisters, she cared for their parents until their passing which created a bond like no other. Sharon had a season in her life when she had the ability to socialize with friends and family, and during the summer she loved camping and enjoying all the things that life had to offer. She was crafty to boot! She made artificial floral arrangements and her handmade wreath collection was themed and abundant. A devout Catholic, Sharon prayed the Rosary, and when she was well, she attended the 12:00 daily Mass at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church, and when her illness prohibited her attendance, she watched Sunday Mass on television. She knew the Lord, and he knew her. Sharon is survived by her devoted husband, Jimmy; her treasured daughters, Dana Lynn Francisco and Michael Peters, Danielle Marie Mazza, and Carissa Anne Mazza; always held close the memory of her son Mark Anthony Mazza who passed away in 1972; her grandchildren, twins, Jayden James, and Janaé Angeline Mazza; and her sisters and brother-in-law, Lorraine “Lorrie” Moyer, and Michele and Robert Mandia. She also leaves many nieces and nephews, including Nicholas Mandia, Anthony Faccioli, Francesco Faccioli, fiance Amanda Pearson and their daughter Lila Angeline; many great-nieces, great-nephews; cousins, especially Fran Fuller who was dear to her; and in-laws, Kathleen Lapertosa, Armeinda Pucine, Antoinette Coleman, Loretta Pugliese, and William Mazza; her special and beloved friends, Sandra “Peppy” Stephens, and Anna Marie Gentile. She was predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Teofilio and Angeline (Longo) Mazza; and in-laws, Joseph “Peppy” Mazza, Gloria and Andy LoConte, Frank Lapertosa, William Pucine, Norman Coleman, and Carl Pugliese. The many kindnesses shown by the following individuals made for blessings upon the family at their time of need: Dr. Shwe Win for her medical expertise; the staff at MVHS at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, especially Michael/ICU, and Kareen/3rd Floor for their compassionate care; and Deacon Paul Lehmann for his blessings and comforting words. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, June 1, 2021 from 5:00- 7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. All safety recommendations will be observed at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Sharon’s funeral service & Celebration of Life which will commence on Wednesday morning, June 2, 2021 at 11:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian burial will be offered. Interment will follow graveside in St. Agnes Cemetery.
