Mr. Richard Francis LaFave

March 21, 1952 - March 19, 2022

UTICA – Mr. Richard Francis LaFave, age 69, passed away unexpectedly in the comfort and dignity of his home on Saturday, March 19, 2022, two days shy of his 70th birthday. Born in Utica on March 21, 1952, to the late LeRoy W. and Evelyn “Arlene” (Collins) LaFave, Richard was raised and educated locally, a graduate of Utica Free Academy. At one time, Richard held positions at Jack Appleseed’s Tavern and Delmonico’s Italian Steak House, where he acted as a versatile member of their teams. Richard contributed by performing many of the various tasks necessary to each restaurant’s operations; he did this work for over 30 years, up until his retirement. Richard was a shy and quiet-natured man who was also known for his good soul and loving heart. Affectionately called “Mr. Rich” by friends, Rich was always willing to help others in need – whether it be family, close friends, or even those he did not know as well. Indeed, he would go to any lengths for the people he loved. One of Rich’s favorite past times during his retirement years was to enjoy coffee at Stewarts. There he enjoyed time with the friendships he had made over coffee, and many remember his trademark “laugh and blush.” When he was not socializing, Richard loved to listen to music, especially the songs on the favorite albums in his CD collection. Additionally, as a sports fan, he rooted for the NY Teams: the Giants, the Yankees, and the Knicks. Lastly, Richard enjoyed going for walks up and down Genesee St. Richard is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Melody E. and Abraham H. Barnhart. He cherished the memory of his predeceased brother, Terry A. LaFave. Richard also leaves behind his niece and nephew, Jennifer Barnhart, and Michael and wife Rachel Barnhart; as well as his great-niece and great-nephews, Albert; Cody, Alexi, and Christopher. Richard shared a special bond with his friend and coworker, Joyce; and his friend, Sara. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 27, 2022, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. A Final Blessing will be offered at the conclusion of visitation.
