FRANKFORT - Mr. Patrick D. “Pat” Samson, age 69, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021 at MVHS at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born in Utica on August 2, 1951, Patrick was the son of the late Floyd D. and Mabel (Tolley) Samson. Raised and educated in New Hartford, he was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. He went on to graduate from Utica College of Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Studies. Pat was a man who loved to learn and he was involved in many enterprises. He was an entrepreneur and owner of several companies. At one time he lived in Milledgeville, Georgia where he worked as a saw filer. He then returned home to the Mohawk Valley and ventured into the business of importing. He established Mr. P’s Imports where he would travel through the American Southwest and Mexico to search for unique goods for his store. Pat had a great respect for the people and culture of the Native Americans. Pat loved geology and became a collector of fossils and many rare specimens. Pat operated a blue stone quarry in Pennsylvania and started his last venture, Mr. P’s Wall Stone Landscaping Products. He had an inherent love for knowledge. He was well-versed in the natural world and artifacts around the world. He was a renaissance man who could hold a conversation with anyone, on a vast variety of topics. If you knew Pat, you had a friend for life. He was a loving, kind man who genuinely and generously gave of himself to help others. A highlight of his travels was visiting the Alamo in San Antonio, TX. Pat was also an amazing cook who gained his vast knowledge of cuisine throughout his various travels. Pat is survived by his sisters, Diane Marie Samson of Texas, and his “Irish twin,” Joanne Samson of Utica; his nieces and nephews, Sabrina Lochner; Danielle (David) Fiorini; Gregory Prentice, Paul Prentice, and Katie (Robert) Boone.; great-nieces and great-nephews, Cassandra, and Jacquilyn McNally; Joseph, and Anthony Fiorini; Leihlah, and Danyael Prentice; Evalyn, Elsie, and Claire Boone; great-great-niece, Leah McNally-Guerra; many cousins and longtime friends. The family is grateful to the staffs of the ICU and IMCU at MVHS at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, especially Dr. Arul Kannan for the care and compassion rendered to Pat; and Pat’s loving niece Katie for tending to his needs and being with her uncle during his final moments. The family will honor and celebrate Patrick’s life in a private gathering. Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
