Mr. Melvin Cave, age 61, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021. At the time of his crossing over, he was in the hearts of those he loved the most. Melvin was born on November 29, 1960 in Aiken, SC to James “Buck” Drayton and Barbara Cave. At age 7, Melvin moved with his family to Utica, NY, where he was raised, educated, and employed. Melvin was a well-known, beloved Christian man of true integrity and faith. His mild-mannered humility, joyous spirit, and demonstration of unconditional love was the foundation of his remarkable personality. Melvin was moreover a family man, having maintained a solid relationship with his long-time love Theresa Adams and their children Candice Adams, Melvin Cave, Kachandrea Cave; his grandchildren Nasir, Namir, Zhanayre, Andre, Michael, Keiaundrea, Ahmari, Jaheim, Jnaii, Akniyedria, Jaceon, Sariah, and great-grandson Navar. His children share that Melvin was a “very, very giving person. He thought he could save the world. He was a great dad, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather.” Melvin was a member of St. Paul’s Baptist Church in Utica, NY, where he worshipped the Lord, sang with the choir, and participated in plays. He thoroughly enjoyed music, photography, and seeing others happy. Melvin was a one-of-a-kind individual who attracted attention with his gentle yet witty disposition. Melvin will be greatly missed, but never forgotten by his aforementioned immediate family; his siblings Marilyn Knight, Deborah Cave, Sheila Thompson, and Lisa Cave; and his best friends who were like brothers to him: David Billins, Curt Savage, Winston Smith, and the late Governor Howard Solomon. Melvin also leaves his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends to remember his life well lived. Melvin was predeceased by his maternal grandmother Ivery Lee Cave Smith, his beloved mother Barbara V. Cave, and stepfather Bobby Holston. For those wishing to bid farewell to Melvin, you may pay your respects on Wednesday, January 5th from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Regardless of vaccination status, face masks are required, to remain in compliance with the state and county mask order.
