August 7, 1926 - May 27, 2021
Mrs. MaryGrace (Zangrilli) Guerra, age 94, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, May 27, 2021. Born on August 7, 1926 in Utica, she was the daughter of the late Luigi and Angelina (Matrulli) Zangrilli. She was raised locally, attending St. Mary of Mount Carmel grade school and graduating with the T.R. Proctor High School Class of 1944. She married Paul Guerra, a close and loving union of 47 years until his passing on December 9, 2008. After working for her father in his business, The Family Shoe Store, she began working at Oneida National Bank, and finished her time there in the Loan Department before leaving to raise her family. In later years she founded Maria’s Pasta Shop, working there for ten years until her retirement. MaryGrace loved to cook and entertain, especially hosting the holidays for extended family and friends. During retirement she enjoyed some traveling and spent as much time as possible with her children and grandchildren. She attended their music recitals and sporting events and enjoyed many annual summer trips to Maine with the Pardi family. MaryGrace was a longtime parishioner of Historic St. John’s Church, as well as a faithful supporter of their Food Pantry and Parish Center. She is survived by her devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Maria Guerra with whom she shared a home, Dr. Anne and Dr. John Sveen, and Paula Guerra and Christopher Farley; her grandchildren who were the light of her life, Sarah, Mia, and Lily Sveen; and Eliza, and Roman Farley. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Barbara Zangrilli, and many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Alfred Pardi; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Philomena, Anthony and Josephine, Raymond Sr. and Palma, and Albert Zangrilli; nephews Louis, and Raymond Zangrilli, Jr.; and in-laws, Enrico and Rose Guerra, Theresa and Harold Nixon, Joseph and Martha Guerra, and Mary and John Mancuso. The family extends their sincere gratitude to Dr. Scott Brehaut for many years of counsel and care, the special caregivers over the past few years who assisted the family so she could remain living in her home, and Hospice and Palliative Care. The family will celebrate MaryGrace’s life privately with a Mass of Christian burial. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Crown Hill Memorial Park. Those wishing to express an act of kindness in MaryGrace’s memory may make a memorial donation to the Food Pantry at Historic St. John’s Church, 240 Bleecker Street, Utica, NY, 13501 or to Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY, 13413 online at https://hospicecareinc.org/donate-online/.
