NEW HARTFORD - Mrs. Mary F. (LaForte) Tinelli, age 91, went home to the Lord on Saturday, August 7, 2021 as she passed peacefully in the comfort and dignity of her home with her loved ones by her side. Born in Albany, NY on March 11, 1930, Mary was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lena (Maneen) LaForte. She was raised and educated in Albany where she graduated from Cathedral Academy High School. On September 10, 1949 she married Giacomo J. “Jack” Tinelli and their unconditional love prevailed in both their hearts for nearly 60 years. They adored one another and shared complementary personalities. Her beloved Jack passed on June 20, 2009. Although Mary had a successful career, she enjoyed being a stay-at-home-mom until her children were independent, at which time she accepted a position with the New York State Department of Transportation. She was a proficient, professional secretary to many Regional Highway Maintenance Engineers, retiring in 1985 after nearly 20 years of dedicated service. Mary and Jack both concluded their working careers to spend time with family, to be wonderful grandparents and to enjoy each other. As a mom, she was a caretaker who never wavered and her tender, caring, actions reflected her love. She guided her kids through stages of their lives and educated them on manners, respect, and the “proper way to do things” ~ on their way to adulthood. She was an excellent Italian cook and baker; and was a great advisor to her children as they began to cook. As a Nana, she adored her grandsons and they loved and honored her. She was up-to-date in their lives and was determined to follow their activities in school and sports. Mary’s happiness depended upon the dreams and happiness of “the boys”. Her great-grandchildren were a blessing of another generation to love. Mary was intuitive and refined in her demeanor and meticulous in her appearance and her home. Her loyalty to family and friends was paramount. She was a great motivator and her inspiration led her to be successful in her commitments and causes. She always took time to have everything in order. At one time, Mary was a member of “The Sew, and So Club” and held close the friends who celebrated many memorable times and monthly meetings. She kept in touch with some of them to her last days. She enjoyed the casino, especially with her daughter and son. After her husband passed, she was gifted a cat named “Pumpkin” who has been a loyal companion, and Mary was devoted to his care and uplifted by the positive energy his presence brought to the house. Mary was an amazing person, so kind and brimming with unconditional love for her family. A woman of strong faith, she lived a blessed, humble life. She trusted in the Lord and took solace in His words. Mary is survived by her devoted children, son Victor Tinelli; and her daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Thomas Ziemann; her cherished grandchildren, Nicholas and Sara Ziemann, and Brian and Zak Ziemann-West; and great-grandchildren, Breccan, and Madelyn Ziemann. She also leaves her loving brothers, John T. LaForte and his late wife Gloria Jane LaForte (2019), and Joseph and Sandy LaForte; and the memory of her two sisters who passed in childhood. She will be remembered by her adoring nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, god-children; and sister-in-law, Laura Tinelli who shared a sister-like relationship with Mary. She was preceded by her in-laws, Carlo, Michael, and Mary Tinelli. She was blessed with many wonderful friends throughout her lifetime. The family wishes to thank the medical staff of MVHS at St. Elizabeth Medical Center for their guidance and compassion; the Lutheran Care Rehabilitation Department; and Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. who allowed Mary's family to bring her to the comfort of her home; they were all angels and messengers of God sent to take care of Mary and her family in their time of need, especially nurses Debbie, Jan, Melissa, and Matt who took exceptional care of Mary. Many thanks as well to Pastor Wally Polock who was so personable and spiritually uplifting. The family will honor and commemorate Mary’s life at a private time. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Mary’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of the works of Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. may be made online to https://hospicecareinc.org or Anita’s Stevens Swan Humane Society at https://www.anitas-sshs.org. Envelopes will also be available at the service. Committal and Entombment will take place at the convenience of the family in Calvary Mausoleum.
