Mary Jane "Bo" Blase

March 7, 1947 - May 6, 2020

S. WINDSOR, CT/UTICA - Our beloved Aunt passed peacefully in the comfort of her own bed on Wednesday, May 6, 2020. As always, her hands were beside her face as she went to sleep. Her unexpected passing, although precipitous, fulfilled her wish to be joined with her sisters Nancy and Pinky who she immensely missed. Mary Jane Blase age 73, born to the late Frank J. and Marion (Garcea) Blase was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1966. She worked as a N.Y. cosmetologist at local salons in Utica. Fun-loving and compassionate of heart, Mary Jane was the nexus of her family and friends. She was humorous, kind, good-natured, and honest. She was also gifted with a knack for telling a story. Although never having been a natural mom, she was blessed with an awesome relationship with her nephews, niece, and their families. She was fiercely protective of her loved ones, empathetic, and wise. Her family came first to her very last day. Mary Jane was a talented cook combining old-school preparations with new techniques. She also mastered baking, from simple recipes to advanced, intricate cake decorating. She was an “anything and everything” shopper and cooking filled her days, always looking to prepare a special meal for those who ate at her table. In years past, she traveled and shared memories of fun-filled vacations, always with “the more, the merrier” motto. She hailed from humble beginnings, and although she was carefree and spirited, she never forgot her roots. A devout Catholic, she recited her daily prayers, and relied to St. Jude for guidance. Above all, she put her trust in God’s will and her life in his hands. Mary Jane was preceded by her sisters, Florene “Pinky” DeSimone (June 11, 2016), Nancy A. Blase (February 9, 2020); and her infant brother who died at birth. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Philip A. “Phil” DeSimone; her beloved and cherished nieces and nephews, Frank DeSimone and fiancée Edina Gagula, Philip and Renee (Spine) DeSimone, and Jamie and Joseph Barbero; her individually adored great-nieces and great-nephews, Frankie DeSimone and fiancée Ashley Sommers, and Bianca DeSimone; Philip, Joseph, and Vinny DeSimone; Nicholas, and Joseph Barbero; cousins, including Marie Manca; many friends. Her life was companioned by her cocker spaniel, “Buba” who was the king of the house! Due to current health concerns and in keeping with federal and state regulations, the family will honor Mary Jane’s life privately.
