Upon her mom’s passing, Marilu was blessed to receive the love and care of her foster mom, the late Aida Monserrate. Marilu was additionally blessed with the guidance of her stepmother, Iris Figeruoa. She was raised in educated in Puerto Rico and then came to Utica 24 years ago, where she has since resided. For 24 years, Marilu shared in a loving relationship with Angel ”Keko” Andino, who was her beloved partner and life companion. Marilu worked for a period of time as a Retail Clerk at the Dollar Tree in Utica. A woman with a great sense of humor, Marilu was always smiling and could make others laugh. Many who met her came to love her, and her parents considered Marilu a fantastic daughter. She always made sure to take care of her family. Her family also remembers Marilu’s passion for cleanliness; some might even call her a “neat freak” as she could be somewhat fanatical about it. Marilu was a “mom” to many of the neighborhood kids, many of whom affectionately remember her as the ICEE Lady for providing the cold treats. The neighborhood children also have fond memories of Marilu dressing up as a clown for their entertainment. A truly creative and energetic soul, she was always the life of the party. Marilu is survived by her father, Dario A. Mazzanet Colon and his companion, Isabel Rosado; her children, Indianis Burgos, Luis Abdiel Galandino, and Jean Carlos Martinez; and her grandchildren, Fabiana, Genesis, Alexis, Jahziel, and Jayden. She was blessed with siblings; her older sister was Dorimar “Doris” Mazzanet who preceded her on October 17, 1990; and Idanis Mazzanet who is her little sister. Marilu was blessed with step siblings from her dad's previous and current relationships, Yoito, Lyvel, Wandy, Cisco, Joey, Richie, Ruly, Ary, and Nana. She will be remembered by her many nieces and nephews, including Roberto “Tito”, Jesus and Anthony Andino, Jarek, and especially acknowledging Idasmyre, and Irving who were her only two biological niece and nephew. She also leaves behind numerous step-nieces and step-nephews, as well as aunts and uncles in Puerto Rico and around the US. Marilu shared in a special friendship with Betsy Torres. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 2:30-4:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. Marilu's funeral service will follow at 4:00 at the funeral home.
