June 5, 1933 - December 24, 2020
UTICA - Mrs. Marie A. (Flo) Angerosa, age 87, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 with her loving daughter by her side. Born in Utica on June 5, 1933, Marie was the daughter of the late Raymond and Freda (Abraham) Flo. She was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1951. On June 6, 1953 she married Nicholas M. Angerosa with whom she shared 40 years as partners in life. A devoted wife, she cherished and cared for Nick prior to his passing on January 14, 1994. A stay-at-home mom, Marie was always available to her children, and in 1977 when they became young adults, Marie enrolled in MVCC where she earned her Certification as a Teaching Assistant. She accepted a position with the Utica City School District at Albany Street Elementary School as a Math aide, a career that spanned 27 years, until the time of her retirement. Although she was a strong-willed woman, she had a quiet nature and devoted herself to her family. She was a loving mother to her children and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marie utilized her creative ability when her husband made handcrafted furniture and she diligently applied the surface coat repeatedly to a smooth sheen, as the “finish” expert. She worked meticulously to match the stain and finish of each piece Nick constructed. She loved antiques and with her knowledge and keen eye, she appreciated vintage treasures. Marie was also a bountiful cook and a skilled baker, with pies and cookies as her forté. She was an avid bowler and shared the lanes alongside the “Angerosa Family”. A special and memorable time for Marie, Nick and the kids was venturing to Vernon Downs Race Way for the weekly excitement of the horse races. They met many people, knew the jockeys and it was truly a family affair that left great memories. She practiced her faith and knew the Lord as she was a Catholic communicant of her home parish, St. Agnes Church. Marie’s primary care was provided by her daughter and son-in-law, and it was second to none. All they wanted was to keep Marie home, keep her safe, and let her know she was loved. Marie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, DeeAnne and Bernie Tomaino; and the memory of her son Nicholas M. Angerosa Jr. who passed away on April 11, 2018; her grandchildren, Adana Marie Tomaino and fiancé Joe Maxwell, and Ava Nicole and Wayne Perrigo; great-grandchildren, Amelia Marie, and Francesca Joy Perrigo; and her siblings, Carol Angerosa, Sandra Pryputniewicz, and Raymond and Patricia Fiore. She also leaves her nieces, especially Cindy Beaton who was her godchild; nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews including Joseph Gabiger who was her godson, cousins; sister-in-law, Betty Angerosa; and her friends from past years with whom she made many wonderful times. She was predeceased by her brothers-in-law, Frank Angerosa, and David Pryputniewicz, and her husband’s brothers, sisters, and their spouses. The family is grateful to Marie’s wonderful caregivers and compassionate “angels of God”, Rifeta Corbic, Debbie Amodio, and Debbie Shorey; the personnel of MVHS at St. Elizabeth Medical Center/ER who were accommodating, kind, and supportive; and the staff at MVHS at St. Luke’s Healthcare who were so gentle and sensitive. The family will honor and commemorate Marie’s life at a private time.
