November 4, 1940 - April 9, 2022
UTICA - Lizzie R. (Bell) Washington, age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 9, 2022 with her family by her side. Lizzie was born November 4, 1940 in Clayton, Alabama to the late Louis and Margaret Bell. She was one of six children of this union. Lizzie relocated to Utica, NY when she was five years old. Upon her arrival, she noticed what she thought was sugar to be snow when she tasted it and it was cold! Lizzie was educated by the Utica City School District; she was an avid runner who competed on the school track team. Upon graduation of high school, Lizzie entered the workforce, dedicating most of her working life to General Electric, Utica. At an early age, she confessed her love to the late Lloyd Washington Sr. and through God’s grace they would share a devoted union for more than fifty years. Lizzie loved the Lord. She was a dedicated and active lifetime member and head usher of the Usher Board at St. Paul’s Baptist Church. As a child, Lizzie was an Eastern Star. Her kind eyes, beautiful smile, loving words, and Christian faith will be missed. Lizzie enjoyed the simple things in life ~ reading, dancing, crocheting, Sudoku, and multiple shopping trips. She was an avid bowler for many years. She loved socializing with family and friends and always loved a good game of spades. Win or lose, she was a dedicated fan of the NY Yankees. Lizzie is survived by her loving children, Julie (Roberts) Jones, Michelle Washington, Lloyd Washington Jr. (Tanja), Anthony Washington (Donna), and Reggie Washington; her loving grandchildren, Michael (Patricia) Washington, Jarvis (Kara) Washington, Katrina Washington, Cassandra (Robert) Jenkins, Seameon Perry, Chaqueen Blackshear, Reggie Washington Jr., Shanté Washington (Hubert), Jasmine Moore, Lakita Washington, Nicole Washington, Lillianna and Aidan Honaker; Jayleen Washington; Anthony Washington Jr., and Gabrielle Jenkins-Washington; her twenty-seven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one Godson, Malik Pulliam. Lizzie is also survived by her brother, Jessie (Marilyn) Bell; brother-in-law, James (Yolanda) Washington of Vine Grove, KY; sister in-law, Natalie Fisher of Inglewood, CA; a host of nieces, nephews, other members, and friends; two favorite nieces, Deborah “Debbie” Boykin-Henderson, and Shelia Holliman; two special cousins, Rachel Hamlett, and Elizabeth Preston; and special friends, including Pat Richardson, Connie Boddie, Delores Williams, and Minnie Johnson. Lizzie was predeceased by her father-in-law and mother in-law, James (Ann) Washington Sr.; her twin sister Elizabeth; sister Lillian (Frank) Watts, sister Benny Lee (Hubert) Holliman; brother Climmie (Margaret) Boykin; brother-in-law William Fisher; grandson Tennell Washington; special cousin Annie Bell; and friend Clara Liggins. The Washington family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the care provided by the ICU staff at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Special thanks to Dr. Thomas John, Dr. Kevin Mathews, and Dr. Dayal Raja. Callers may pay their respects to Lizzie’s family on Saturday morning, April 16, 2022 at St. Paul’s Baptist Church, 219 Leah St., from 10:00-11:00. Lizzie’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am at the church upon the conclusion of visitation. Interment will take place in New Forest Cemetery at the convenience of the family. This loving tribute was written by the family of Lizzie R. (Bell) Washington.
