CLINTON - Mrs. Hermie Lee (Camp) Butler, age 79, fell asleep in death on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at MVHS at St. Luke’s Healthcare with her loving family by her side. Born in Belle Glade, Florida on December 19, 1940, Hermie was the daughter of the late Charles Camp and Charlie Mae (Hawkins) Camp-Sellers. She also knew the love of her late step-father, Warren Sellers. Hermie was a member of Jehovah Witness. Hermie was raised and educated in Utica. Hermie was a graduate of MVCC and Utica College where she obtained her degree in Social Work and Journalism. Hermie held many responsible positions in her career and was well liked and respected in the workplace. Hermie truly loved and enjoyed her last position when she retired in Oneida County as a Probation Officer. She was offered a higher position at the time of her retirement but instead chose to leave the workforce to be with her family that meant the world to her. Hermie will fondly be remembered by many in the community that she helped along the way. When you met Hermie for the first time, she made a lasting impression in your heart. She was a genuinely kind and compassionate person. Many will say that with Hermie you could still feel the warmth of her smile and remember the sound of her laughter long after she had left the room. Hermie loved listening to music, playing chess, dancing, and she was an avid reader. Hermie was preceded in death by her cherished children, Cynthia Butler, and Fern and Charles Butler. She is survived by her daughter, Ursel Butler; her sons, Brian Butler, Ferman Butler Jr., and twins, Ronald (and Marisol) Butler, and Donald Butler; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sisters, Gail Camp-Garrett, Jessie (and Clyde) Jones, and Atha (and Ronald) Sample; and the memory of her best friend and sister Minerva Ann (Camp) Davis who passed away February 2020; her brothers, Charles Milton Camp and the memory of her sister-in-law Vicky Camp who passed away June 2020, Ronnie (and Willa) Camp, Paul Robert Camp, and Michael Kelvin Tennell; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws; her neighbor, Gene, and her friend, Joanne. The family is grateful to Hermie’s primary physician, Dr. Amy Gorczynski for her care and compassion; and Dr. Ghassan Koussa for his medical expertise.
