FRANKFORT - Mrs. Helen L. (Bawarski) Maggio, age 94, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021 in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on February 23, 1927, Helen was the daughter of the late Joseph and Stella (Malapolska) Bawarski. On May 1,1948 she married Nicholas M. Maggio Sr. and during their 54 years together, love and commitment were paramount, and family was their priority. Nick passed away on September 4, 2002. During her working life, Helen was employed by Sealtest Ice Cream, General Electric and lastly at the New York State Office Building where she retired. Mom was a dedicated hard worker with an exceptional work ethic. Our Mother was a generous and kind woman who taught her children to love and work hard. She was a devoted Grandmother who always remembered birthdays and celebrated events with her children and grandchildren. They all brought a sparkle to her eyes! Helen humbly sacrificed for the family because they were first and foremost in her heart and she loved them unconditionally. Mom loved to be outdoors, tending to her gardens, picking berries for jam or vegetables for canning. Holidays were made memorable because Mom would spend hours baking the favorites and preparing all the specialties. In honor of her Polish Heritage, we were treated with homemade perogies and golumpki. Until her health prevented her, Mom never missed Blessing the Basket on Holy Saturday at Holy Trinity Church. She encouraged her children in music and the arts. Mom enjoyed listening to her children practice their musical instrument. Their artistic creativity also brough her much joy. Mom enjoyed playing Bingo and socialized at area community lodges and clubs until her health prevented her from doing so. As devout Catholic, Mom believed in the Lord, and prayed the Rosary. She was a communicant of St. Francis deSales Church until its closing, at which time she became a parishioner of St. Joseph & St Patrick Church. Mother is survived by her children and spouses; Santo J. Maggio and his wife, Mary Pelli-Maggio, Annette R. and Larry Baker, Diane and Richard S. Spina Sr., Linda Maggio, Sharon Maggio, Estelle Maggio and friend, Jim Watrous, Nicholas M. Jr. and wife Lori Maggio and daughter-in -law, Marlene Maggio and fiancé Edward Smith. Mom will be lovingly reunited with her husband, Nick and their children who have gone before them; Anthony J. Maggio, infants Nicholas Maggio and Livia Ann Maggio. Mom will always remain in the hearts of her 7 children, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and soon expected 12th great grandchild and their spouses, including Staci Di Rockwell and her children, Jade and her daughter Naomi Rockwell, Oz, Jasper, Blue; Anna, Andrew, Simeon, Loren & Curtis Baker; Adrian & Melissa Maggio; Lynette Maggio, her son Brandon Wright & her fiancé Brandin Morillo; Anthony Jr & Kassandra Maggio and their children Edward, Alexander & Elizabeth; Richard Jr & Andrea Spina and daughters Marissa & Alyssa; Kymberly & Anthony Dirig and daughter Emily; Steven Maggio, Matthew & Erin Maggio.
