Mr. Giuseppe "Joe" Loprete
May 20, 1933 - December 16, 2020
WHITESBORO - Mr. Giuseppe “Joe” Loprete, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 in the comfort and dignity of his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Cropani, Italy on May 20, 1933, Giuseppe was the son of the late Francesco and Serafina (Giannotti) Loprete. He was raised and educated in Italy. On October 13, 1956, in Italy, he married the former Ada Nistico and subsequently they immigrated to America and settled in the Utica area where they have since resided, sharing 64 years in a union blessed with love and devotion. At one time during his working life, Joe held various construction jobs, and ultimately retired from the Utica City School District/Maintenance Department. A man of humility, his family lived in his heart, and he lived close to the land and customs of the ‘old country’. He loved cultivating a vegetable garden and carrying on the Italian traditions of making his own handcrafted wine from grapes, dandelions, or berries, making sausage from scratch, and sharing his continental cuisine and vino with his loved ones. Joe was a fanatic in maintaining his property and took pride in caring for his home. He practiced his Catholic faith as a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Joe is survived by his wife, Ada; his daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Jeff Stewart; his son, Frank Loprete, and the memory of his son Joseph Loprete, Jr., who preceded him in death on October 25, 2000; grandchildren, Cory, Cody, and Collin Stewart, Jolene and Matt Tighe, Frankie Jr. and Kristin Loprete, Nina Loprete, and Sarena Loprete; and twelve great-grandchildren. He will also be remembered by his four brothers and sisters residing in Italy; and his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws. He was predeceased by one brother and two sisters who lived in Italy. The family is grateful to Dr. Vigneswaran Kandiah and his staff for their care and compassion and going beyond the call of duty in their comprehensive medical expertise and efforts on Joe’s behalf. Due to current COVID conditions and constraints, the family will honor and commemorate Joe’s life privately. Funeral services and Entombment in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. During this time of social distancing that we are all experiencing, please take a moment to connect with Giuseppe’s family through the “Memories” section of his obituary. Our prayers go out to all as a sign of our continued support.
