Gerald P. "Jerry" Suppa

Mr. Gerald P. “Jerry” Suppa, age 67, formerly of Utica and currently a resident of Canastota, passed away on Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Albany Medical Center with the love and support of his family by his side. Born in Utica on November 26, 1943, Gerald is the son of Edith (Cappelli) Suppa and the late Peter J. Suppa. He was raised and educated in Utica. On August 22, 1964 he married the former Marie A. Surace with whom he shared 46 years in a blessed and loving union. Marie always offered her tender and attentive care throughout his illness. Jerry began his working career at the P & C Supermarket in Utica 1959 as a part time clerk. He worked his way up the ranks to Store Manager, District Manager, and then Regional Manager. His knowledge, experience, and leadership skills yielded him the ultimate promotion to the position of Vice-President of Store Operations for P & C Markets. Jerry was a selfless person who lived his life in devotion to others, both at home and at work. He was blessed with the warmth of heart that kindled a natural rapport with people who just made his acquaintance --- a feeling as though they knew him their whole life. He had a caring heart, and was loving and supportive with his family, friends, and co-workers. He always spoke his opinions with fairness and objectivity and made you see the other side of things. He offered guidance and support to his sons and he was a gentle, loving soul, charitable of heart, always there to lend a hand. He loved to fish and found peace and pleasure when he cast his line. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and served on the board of the Boxing Hall of Fame. He was a parishioner of St. Agatha’s Parish in Canastota. Jerry is survived by his wife, Marie; his mother, Edith Suppa of Utica; his sons and daughter-in-law, Michael G. and Kerry L. Suppa of Blossvale, and Gerald S. Suppa of Oneida; and his grandchildren, Laura Suppa, Edward Humphreys, Kayla Suppa, Justin Tornatore and his son, Jacob. He also leaves his sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Ann Suppa and Ben Julian, and Sandra and Pasquale Mungari, all of Utica; his aunts, Victoria Perritano, and Gloria Cappelli; his nieces and nephews, especially acknowledging Sean and Leslie Surace, Dr. Joseph and Amy Mungari, and Jacki and John Vitullo; his great-nieces and great-nephews including Meghan and Lily Surace, Joseph Jr. & Alexandra Mungari, Sophia and John Vitullo, Jr.; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank and Marilyn Surace of Charlestown, NH; and his many special friends. He was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Angela Surace. The family expresses gratitude to Dr. Ira Tisch for all his care, friendship and professionalism. Visitation will be held Friday (today) from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Gerald’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning at 11:30 at St. Agatha’s Parish, 329 N. Peterboro Street, Canastota, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Kevin J. Corcoran. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
