UTICA - Carmelina A. (Restifo) Franco, age 94, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at the Abraham House with the ones she loved most in her heart. Born in Utica on April 3, 1926, Carmelina was the daughter of the late Joseph S. and Mary (Gelfuso) Restifo. She was raised and educated in Utica. At one time, she was married to late Anthony “Gig” Franco. Many years ago, Carm worked as an Office Manager for United Contractor. She was a self-confident woman motivated by an inner strength that guided her through the ups and downs of life, and a lighter sense of humor that lifted her spirit during stressful times. She loved her Italian food and pastries, and had a passion for playing the piano. She practiced her Catholic faith at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Carmelina is survived by her daughter, Elaine (Franco) Bliss, and the memory of her infant daughter Betty E. Franco who passed in 1945; her grandchildren, Jason Bliss, Michelle Bliss, Brenda and James Rafferty, and the memory of her infant grandson, Raymond Austin who preceded her; great-grandchildren, Alexis; Audrey, Jazlynn, Catarina; and Pyper; great-great-grandchildren, Destiny, Peyton, and the anticipation of another great-great-grandchild in January, a blessing for which she was so proud. She also leaves her sisters and brother-in-law, Betty DiNardo, Nancy and Anthony N. Corelli, and Mary Waters; brothers and sister-in-law, Philip J. and Geraldine C. Restifo, and Dominick “Auggie” Restifo; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; sister-in-law, Carol Franco; and friends, especially Edward Talarico who was like a son to her. She was predeceased by her in-laws, Carmen DiNardo, Thomas Waters, and Donald “Dini” Franco. The family wishes to express gratitude to the Hope House, who always enjoyed Carmelina’s visits; the staff of MVHS @ St. Luke’s Healthcare, Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., and the Abraham House for their compassion and care during Carmelina’s final days. In keeping with her wishes, Carmelina’s loved ones will honor her life privately. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
