UTICA - Mr. Anthony Joseph Scalise, Jr., age 76, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on November 8, 1943, Anthony was the son of the late Anthony Joseph Sr. and Louise (Florenz) Scalise. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. A veteran of the United States Army, Anthony was proud to serve his country. In 1973 he married the former Congetta A. Donato with whom he shared 47 years in a loving and devoted union. Anthony worked as a United States Postal Carrier, the position from which he retired after serving more than 38 years delivering mail to Utica residents. A patient, kind, respectful patriarch, he loved and cared for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He always offered his nurturing ways and looked after his loved ones through good times and tough times, especially if they were ill. They meant the world to him. Anthony loved all sports, best of all, the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Anthony is survived by his wife, Congetta; daughter, Concetta “Connie” M. Scalise; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Linda Giovinazzo, Robert and Angela Scalise, and Anthony III and Ashley Scalise; grandchildren, Lindsay and John Pinkerton; Joseph and Cherish Giovinazzo; and Juliana Scalise; and three beloved grandchildren residing in Greece; and his cherished great-grandchildren. He also leaves his brother and sister-in-law, Bart and Fran Scalise; in-laws, Mary Fiorentino who he loved as a sister, and Ted Donato who he loved as a brother; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends, especially Vinny LaPaglia, Cindy and Dennis Getter, and Ron Corabi. He was predeceased by his in-laws, Judith E. Donato, and Michael A. Fiorentino. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Anthony’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning at 11:00 from the funeral home and at 12:00 noon at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered with Military Honors conferred by the United States Army. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
