Mrs. Yvonne M. (Emerson) Salvo

UTICA – Mrs. Yvonne M. (Emerson) Salvo, age 85, passed away in the comfort and dignity of her own home on Thursday, March 9, 2023. Her family is grateful their mom passed at home, which was faithful to her wishes. Born on March 31, 1937 to the late Roy and Mildred Emerson, she spent her childhood and was educated in Rochester. When she relocated to Utica, she attended beauty school and became a NY State Licensed Beautician. Ever an entrepreneur, she was the proprietor of her own shop located on the 5 Points as well as other locations where she had booth rentals. She learned so many life lessons from her customers and treated them like family, many of whom became lifelong loyal friends. At one time, she married Kenneth R. Williams, with whom she shared a fun-filled life and had three children Colleen, Sheree, and Kenny. Her second blessing was her marriage to Bernard J. Adorino, Sr., and the other children to grace their lives were Marla M. and Bernie Jr. They had many memories of times spent in Clayton in the 1000 Islands where they enjoyed the water and many fun activities. In 1969, she fell in love with Rosario A. "Russ" Salvo, Jr. Their union was not only a bond to one another, but her children were his own. Kellie and Richie brought the total to seven. They kept a strong faith and strengthened each other in times of need. They truly loved one another and the family that they had bonded, which will forever be one of their greatest accomplishments. Russ had a strong demeanor and Yvonne was the woman in charge. As a pair, they raised their family with much love, fun, hospitality, and many blessed times. In retrospect, their children now have great admiration for what their mom and dad were able to do to make the family unit strong, well cared for, and unified. She always said she grew up with the children and learned much from them! Everything she did, she did for her family, never failing to show genuine love. When her grandchildren began to arrive, she came alive! She could relate on an individual level to each of them and wanted them to have fun - and she joined right in! And the great-grandchildren were an additional blessing. Her little ones amazed her toward the end of her days. Yvonne loved any and all activities on the water from boating to swimming and day trips to Delta Lake. She had an adventurous streak, and she was known for being fearless and strong. She was industrious, diligent, and a hard worker. She waitressed at Tony’s Spaghetti House on James Street as well as Twin Ponds Country Club. She also loved to craft, selling her creations at shows; all of these efforts were to provide little extras for her children. She had a flair for decorating, which was admired by many, and her artistic talents were well displayed in the interior and exterior of her home. It was nothing short of stunning and elegant. Ever one to entertain, she hosted many a thrilling party. Christmas Eve was hers, and it was important to her to have her family around her. She had a way of making it look easy. She never let on how she managed to do it. Her values and virtues seem to be so instilled in each of her children and are upheld to this very day. She was gracious, had a humble heart, and people were drawn to her remarkable ways. She spent many years with Our Lady of Lourdes Church - where her children attended grammar school - and practiced her faith her whole life. Yvonne is survived by her precious children and their loves, Colleen A. Talbot-Eckler and her husband Rick Eckler; the cherished memory of her daughter Sheree L. Williams-Johnson, who preceded her on November 6, 2022; Kenneth R. and Pamela Williams, Marla M. Adorino, Bernard J., Jr. and Adrienne Adorino, Kellie M. Salvo-Sanger and her husband Eric; and honored the life of her son, Richard J. "Richie” Salvo, who passed on October 25, 1997. She will also be missed by her beloved grandchildren, Rana L. and Derek Spada, Ryan E. Talbot and Terra Stone, Heather Marsh, Jonathan Pryor, Zoey Adorino, Bernard J. Adorino III, Nicholas Rosario Adorino, Jacob Sanger, and Zachary Sanger; and her great-grandchildren, Lorelei, Lucas; Madison, Dylan, and Jordan; Luca, and Giada; She was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, Gordon and Barbara Emerson, Richard and Donna Emerson, and Louis Emerson. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. To the many Salvo family members with whom she shared her life, the family is mindful in remembering her two surviving in-laws, Cheryl Salvo and John Bianco. She was also predeceased by her sister-in-law, Josie Carcone, who was not only family but her greatest friend and confidant who enjoyed life with Yvonne to the fullest; her in-laws Anthony and Marie Salvo, Katherine and Anthony Cannistra, Fanny "Faye" Bianco, Margaret “Bunny” and Victor Nole, Sr., Marie and Alfred "Al" Giglio, Josephine and Benedetto "Benny" Carcone, John Salvo, Daniel A., Sr. and Lamaya Salvo, and Paul Rosario Salvo. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Yvonne's Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Lourdes Campus, 2222 Genesee St. There will be an opportunity to greet the family at the conclusion of Mass. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions in Yvonne’s honor may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital online at www.stjude.org/donate; envelopes will also be available at the Mass.
