Mr. Wyatt Holmes

UTICA - Mr. Wyatt Holmes went to heaven when he passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 in the comfort of his family’s home with his loved ones by his side. Born in Utica on September 19, 1963, Wyatt was the son of the late Warren Holmes, Sr. and Lillie Mae (Bouie) Holmes-Height. He attended Roosevelt and Kernan Schools. He shared a relationship with Mary (Henderson) Jackson and their love brought them 3 children; Wyatt was a good dad to his kids. A hardworking man, Wyatt was skilled in carpentry, masonry, and plumbing. He was a finish man at all his endeavors. Although he had joy in his heart, he was sometimes a strong-headed man, a virtue he learned from his pops. He had a sense of humor, carried out his lines with class, and could always make you laugh — or cry! Wyatt was straight up, his own soul, and a bit crazy! He was often disguised in costumes and when he sent a text and picture, it made you fall out. He was a people person, checking out everyone around him and saying hello with fancy salutations. Maybe he was just being friendly, … or maybe he was just being Wyatt flirting. Wyatt’s parents were excellent role models which made it easy for him to grow to be a gentleman and a good family man. His mom’s home was the center for family to gather, and he felt most comfortable there. When he had his own children, he tried to extend the same love to them as he had received from his parents. He talked about all of them and their achievements all the time. Wyatt was the master of the grill and the bartender for all the family get-togethers. He was also an outdoorsman who set out to hunt or fish early in the pre-dawn hours of the morning, and whatever he caught, he cooked it up and had a delicious meal at the creekside. He was physically fit and he dressed the part, complete with camouflage! Most importantly, Wyatt was a believer in the Lord and he knew he had a place in heaven. Once he knew he was sick, he did not prolong his time on earth for he knew that the gates of heaven would be open for him. Wyatt is survived by his children, Wyatt T. Holmes, Jr., Melissa McCovery, and Wyzeta Holmes; a host of grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Anthony Syracusa; brothers and sister-in-law, Warren Holmes, Jr., Pastor Dwayne and Joanne Holmes, and Johnny Holmes. He will also be remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; his sister-in-law, Eva Holmes; and the many great friends who graced his life, especially Anthony “Wash” Washington. He was predeceased by his siblings, Donald Durant Holmes in 2015, Joannie Holmes in 1997, Eddie Holmes in 1986, and Everett A. “Tony” Holmes in 2019. His loved ones are grateful to Hospice & Palliative Care angels Pam and Jennifer who made amazing things happen during this difficult time and kept the family encouraged. Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Wyatt’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 6:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation.
