Willie Lue (Lumpkin) Patterson

Mrs. Willie Lue (Lumpkin) Patterson, age 83, of Utica, beloved Matriarch of the Patterson Family, was called from her labor in this world to her reward with the Lord, on Tuesday, September 29, 2009. Her passing occurred at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with her loving children, grandchildren, and family by her side. Born in Macon County, Georgia on May 1, 1926, Willie Lue was the daughter of the late Will and Lillie Mae (Webb) Lumpkin. She was raised and educated in Georgia. Upon her marriage to Daniel J. Patterson, Sr. the couple relocated to Utica where they shared a loving union up until Daniel’s passing on December 20, 2000. A dedicated homemaker, Willie Lue was blessed with a comforting nature and a quiet disposition. A very strong-willed woman, she was also very gentle and peaceful, with a gift for knowing just what to say at the right time. As the family coordinator, she made all who visited feel comfortable, offering good advice, and helpful hints. During her spare time she enjoyed sewing, embroidery, knitting, and cooking. She held a great faith in God and was a member of St. Paul’s Baptist Church. Always close to her heart were the memories of her daughter, Lois Wilcox, and her son Samuel Patterson, who both preceded her in death. Her legacy of love and years of cherished memories will be carried forward by her sons, Daniel Patterson, Jr. of Rome, NY, Oscar Patterson of Utica, Floyd Patterson of Charlotte, NC, and Booker and Debra “Dee” Patterson of Liverpool, NY; and her daughters, Patricia Patterson, Willie Lou Patterson, Elizabeth A. Patterson-Moyer, and Cynthia R. Patterson, all of Utica; her twenty grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Survivors also include her sister, Nancy McClendon of Georgia; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. She was predeceased by her three sisters and two brothers. The Patterson Family would like to thank the staff of the St. Luke’s Healthcare Center CCU, Dr. Raouf Kodsy, Dr. Nelson, and home health aide, Donna, with Sr. Network Health, for their compassionate care and support. Visitation and Home Going Services will be held Saturday at St. Paul’s Baptist Church, 219 Leah St., Utica. Friends may call from 10:45-11:45 with formal services beginning at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery. Funeral services of comfort have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
