Wendy F. "2-40" Gaston

UTICA- Wendy F. “2-40” Gaston, age 55, departed this life on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. At the time of her passing she was surrounded by her family, and comforted by singing her favorite Gospel song, “Goin’ Up Yonder” to be with my Lord. Wendy was born on April 7, 1967, to the late Fred Gadsden (Gaston), Sr. and Deloris J. (Holmes) Gaston. She was born, raised, and educated in her hometown, Utica, where she loved being surrounded by her mother “Mommy”, siblings, children, and grandchildren. Wendy was baptized and a member at Holy Temple in Utica. Wendy is a feminine name of English origin meaning friend. There was never a better daughter, sister, mother, or aunt to have as a friend than Wendy. Wendy loved this life. She enjoyed partying and hanging with her friends. Wendy loved her mother’s boiled chicken and noodles; a meal that she tried many times to imitate. Wendy loved the finger wave hairdo which was done by her childhood friend, Jimmy Jackson. She called her white sneakers “White Girls”, or “Pumpkin Seeds”. Wendy was the last born of eight children. She was spoiled and she knew it. When she was younger, her two older siblings, Evelyn and Esther, would fight over her. Until the end, Lillie would run to her rescue with no questions asked because she was the baby. Wendy parted from this life leaving to remember her, 4 children, Niya Gaston, Nicole Gaston, Patrick Boyd, and Michael Gaston; her 9 grandchildren, Tatyona Boyd, Vyshawn Watkins, Nicole Searcy, Kaiasha Bernard, Denzelle Davis, Emillon Gaston, Kenniece Gaston, Amira Collins, and Naishaun Gaston; 9 siblings, George Gaston (Mary), sister-in-law Belinda Gaston, Lillie Savage (Walter), Evelyn Gaston Opinya, Ester Gaston, Fred Gaston Jr. (Barbara), Nancy Gaston Peterson (Sam), Matthew Gaston, Charise Glenn, and Freda Gadsden. Wendy was preceded by her uncle, Willie "Uncle Bill" Wright; her special cousin, Joannie Holmes; paternal grandmother, Evelyn Bell; maternal grandparents, Esther Brown, and Everett T. Holmes. She will be truly missed by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends with special mention of Anissa Bell, Shawn “Shary” Anderson, Michelle Brown, Sandy Linen, Dorris Hendricks, and Beverly “Seven” Warner. The family is grateful and blessed for the love and care that was extended to Wendy throughout her illness; the staff of the 2nd floor at the Oneida Center; Faxton-St. Luke’s Dialysis Center, especially Shatoya Bell, and MVHS at St. Luke’s Comfort Care Unit. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 9, 2022 from 4-6 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Wendy’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will follow at 6:00 upon conclusion of visitation at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
