Mr. Walter Lee Hervey, Sr.

UTICA – Mr. Walter Lee Hervey, Sr., age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 in the company of his devoted family. Walter was born on August 11, 1937 in Water Valley, Mississippi to the late Evan and Lula Mae (Phillips) Hervey. Walter remained in Water Valley during his youth and was the first of his family to relocate to the Utica area. It was here that Walter met the love of his life, the former Deloris Hunter. In 1971, they were united in marriage. They shared love and bliss together until her passing in 1989. Walter held employment with Rome Copper and Brass as a crane operator. He was proud to retire from the position he held and the company he worked. Walter was able to be a great provider for his family and made sure that their wants and needs were always met. He was loving and caring; a true family man in every sense of the word. Walter’s dedication to his loved ones and witty sense of humor were unmatched. Walter’s home evidenced his love of family and being able to spend time with them. Walter spent his days surrounded by photos of his children and grandchildren, reliving moments from holidays, family gatherings and special occasions over the years. Walter was a fisherman, especially frequenting West Eaton, and was an avid hunter; he enjoyed being able to share these passions with his children. He also had an affinity for horses and spent time at OTB appreciating the skillfulness in the sport. Walter will be remembered as a kind and respectful man. Walter is survived by his children and their spouses, Eric Hervey, Sr., Sharon and Richard Enos, Cynthia Santiago, and Lorraine and Louis Washington. He treasured in his heart the memories of his children who preceded him, Walter Lee Hervey, Jr., Barbara Jean Leon, and Ronnie Hervey, Sr. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Eric, Jr., Erica, Elijah, and Tyrease Hervey; Richard and Courtney Enos, Joshua Hervey, Vincent Enos, and Sharonda Enos; Daquan Hervey; Alterick Galloway, Atasia Galloway, Amani Washington, and Aaron Reed; Garyce and Michelle Hervey, Marcus and Corean Hervey, Jasmin Hervey, Brian Hervey, and Myles Hervey; Edward and Vanessa Howard, Ngcoba and Eldora Atkins; Deloris Akins, and Ronnie Hervey, Jr.; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Bessie Mae Gooch (the late Robert Gooch); and the Gooch family, step-sister, Eva Sanders-Cook; step-brothers and their spouses, Eddie Gene and Ruth Sanders, and Leonard “PeeWee” and Johnella Sanders. He was preceded by his siblings, Zelma Brown, and Clement Hervey. He leaves a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Utica Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their good care of Walter. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. A Prayer Service will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation.
