Walkery Mills, Jr.

UTICA - Mr. Walkery Mills, Jr., age 77, went home to be with the Lord when he passed away on Friday, November 11, 2022, after a lengthy illness. Walkery was born in Enterprise, Alabama on August 30, 1945, to the late Walkery Sr. and Ollie (Engram) Mills. He was raised and educated in Utica, where he attended UFA. He was proud to serve his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On September 11, 1973 Walkery wed the former Susie Mae Lacy, with whom he shared a blessed and loving union for 47 years prior to her passing on October 7, 2020. For 40 years Walkery was employed at Remington Arms as a Security Guard, retiring in 2012. Walkery was very devoted to the needs of his loving family. They were his everything—the focal point of his existence. He had a beautiful heart; he was very generous and selfless. His home was always open to all, and he developed bonds by helping to raise and nurture those he loved. He enjoyed gathering and spending time with his buddies at Johanne’s Coffee Shop. Walkery was an active, devoted member at Masonic Lodge #18. He enjoyed and was always involved in its activities. Walkery was known as a “Karaoke King.” His family admired listening to him sing Billy Ray Cyrus’ “When I Get Home.” He loved to travel, especially trips to Las Vegas to visit his sister. He had many fond memories of cruises with his family and friends. Walkery is survived by his sons, David E. Mills and (Kimberly Murray); and Walkery Mills III. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Walkery Mills IV and (Sarah Mills), Maurice Mills and (Sierra Speed), Mason Mills, and Jacob David Mills; his great-grandchildren Jada Mills, Malakhi Mills, MaKinsley Mills, Mikah Mills, Makhoi Mills, Mya Mills, and Walkery Mills V. He is also survived by his sister, Cynthia Diane Washington. He is additionally survived by many relatives including Anthony Mills Sr. and Tarita Mills; his beloved nephews whom he helped to raise, Norris Lacy Sr., Frank Lovett, Derell Lovett, Fred Lacy Jr.; and his niece Anna Lee Lacy. He is also survived by his in-laws John and Mary Lacy, and Aida Santiago. He also leaves behind a host of many dear friends. Walkery is predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law David and Annia Lee Lacy; his brothers-in-law David Lacy, James Lacy, Henry Lacy, Fred Lacy, and Nathaniel Washington; his brothers Willie Fred Mills and his wife Betty Jean, and Ray Lee Mills; and his sisters Carrie Bell and George White, Mary Alice and Charles Morrison, Gussie Lee and Johnny Hooks, and Eloise Lovett. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Walkery’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
