Virginia M. (Zajac) Arcuri

Mrs. Virginia M. (Zajac) Arcuri, age 75, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 26, 2006 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. Her sons were by her side at the time of her passing. Born in Utica on September 2, 1930, Virginia was the daughter of the late John and Caroline Zajac. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On October 13, 1951 she married Joseph F. Arcuri with whom she shared a union of 40 years, one that was filled with their mutual love and devotion. Joseph passed away on March 6, 1992. Mrs. Arcuri was a legal secretary who was employed with Sal Eannace for many years, providing the law firm with loyal and conscientious service. As a caring and nurturing woman, she was lovingly dedicated to her children and grandchildren. In fact, it could be said of Virginia that “her family was her life.” Of all the many pleasures she enjoyed, the most rewarding was her summer home: she truly loved every moment she spent at the family camp at White Lake where one of her very favorite activities was swimming. Another pastime she pursued both at the lake and here at home in Utica was solving crossword puzzles. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking. She also loved to dance and was a dance instructor for many years. At one time she was a communicant of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament. Mrs. Arcuri is survived by 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph F. and Regina (Restive) Arcuri of Liverpool, Frank and Wanda (Korchinsky) Arcuri of Utica, and Richard and Renee (Walrod) Arcuri of Holland Patent; and her grandchildren, Michelle Arcuri, Joseph Arcuri IV, Frank Arcuri, Brandon Arcuri, Ricky Arcuri Jr., and Danielle Arcuri. She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Olga Zajac of Herkimer; a half-sister, Irene Mostek of Chicago IL; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; and her in-laws, Rose Rakowski of Utica, and Santina Talerico of Myrtle Beach SC. She was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, John and Jane Zajac; her half-brother and his wife, Edward and Jane Leniek; her half-sister, Josephine (Zajac) Rygielski; and a brother-in-law, James Talerico. The family offers its sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of the ER at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, and to the personnel of Engine 5 and Rescue 1 of the Utica Fire Dept. Visitation will be held today (Tuesday) from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Mrs. Arcuri’s funeral will commence on Wednesday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. Mark’s Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
