Virginia M. (Mallozzi) Cecilia

UTICA – Virginia M. (Mallozzi) Cecilia, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Virginia was born in Utica on July 15, 1936, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Josephine (Perretta) Mallozzi. She also knew the love and guidance of her late stepparents, Anthony “Tony” and Mary (Carrucci) Iovine. Raised and educated in Utica, Virginia was a proud graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1955. On July 21, 1956, Virginia married her beloved husband, John A. Cecilia, in a union blessed with love and companionship. The couple shared 51 years together prior to John's passing on January 11, 2008. Virginia's career was predominantly centered around her role as a homemaker until her children were raised, after which she began working part-time with the Utica Observer-Dispatch and more recently as a Bus Aide with the Utica City School District, from which she retired. She was steadfastly devoted to her loved ones; her family was the main focus of her existence. She was proud of her children and grandchildren and was proud to see great-grandchildren added to the family. She was a meticulous homemaker, you could “eat off her floor!” She loved to tend to and decorate her home. She loved to share her excellent cooking skills at gatherings with the family for her “famous Sunday dinners.” Virginia treasured in her heart the memory of her daughter, Patricia “Patty” Cecilia, who passed away May 1, 2017. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Joann and Steven Carl, and Lori and Jeffrey Farrell; grandchildren, twins Jenna and Matthew Cowburn, and Shelby and Jordan Plows, Mackenzie and Dominick Maclaury; USMC Daniel Farrell and Isabella “Bella” Barretta, and Samuel Farrell; and great-grandchildren, Everleigh, and Jayce Cowburn; Jackson, Brantley, and Skyler Plows; and Summer Maclaury. She fondly remembered her brother who preceded her, Bernard Mallozzi. She additionally leaves to cherish her memory nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; in-laws, Jean Green, and Rosemary and David Martin; and her dear friend, Phyllis Gigliotti. Virginia was additionally predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gino and Rose (DiPietro) Cecilia; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Virginia (Miani) Cecilia; and nephews, Paul Cecilia, Jr., and Michael Cecilia. In keeping with her wishes there will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Virginia's Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life, which will commence on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at Historic Old St. John's Church, 240 Bleecker St. There will be an opportunity to greet the family at the conclusion of Mass. By family request please omit floral offerings. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
