Virginia (Serway) Traglia

Mrs. Virginia (Serway) Traglia, age 80, of Utica, passed from the hands of her family into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, January 09, 2010. Her passing occurred unexpectedly at the Upstate Medical University, Syracuse. Born in Frankfort, NY on August 3, 1929, Virginia was the daughter of the late Fargo and Emily (Karouf) Serway. Raised and educated in Frankfort, she was a graduate of Frankfort High School. On October 8, 1949 she married her love, Frank F. Traglia, and the blessing of their 60 years together enriched each other’s lives. Virginia graced her family with love and devotion, and she was the “heart of the home”. She exemplified the true meaning of motherhood which was her greatest achievement and joy. She sacrificed to provide a loving home for her children and her efforts were reciprocated with their respect and admiration. She expressed constant concern for her children, and her family and friends will hold her gentle soul and caring heart in their treasured memories. She enjoyed the pastime of preparing meals to delight her family and much centered around her kitchen table. For leisure entertainment she shared in the excitement of Bingo and the slot machines at the casino. Most importantly, it was Virginia’s faith that sustained her existence and guided her life. She was a member of the Knights of St. John Ladies’ Auxiliary and a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Virginia is survived by her husband, Frank; her children and their spouses, Glenn and Carol Traglia of Westmoreland, David and Julie Traglia of Clinton, John Traglia of Utica, Dan and Kathy Traglia of NJ, Jim and Angela Traglia of Mohawk, Frank and Laurie Traglia of Richfield Springs, Gina and Adam Goichman of CT, and Jacqueline Traglia of Utica; and her grandchildren, Tom, David, Nicole, Sara, Jon, Dan, Alexa, Jim, Christy, Bernadette, Zachery, Justin, and Noah. Survivors also include her sisters and brother-in-law, Sophie Pelose of Rome, Alice Puleo of Sauquoit, and Helen and Ron Miner, and Freda Orbinati, all of Rome; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, John Serway of Blossvale, NY, Raymond and Betty Serway of VA and FL, and Alec and Joan Serway of Clinton; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and her brother-in-law, Anthony “Cory” Cortese. She was also blessed with many longtime friends. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, George and Jeanette Serway; and her in-laws, Fred “Fritz” Pelose, Constentine “Tino” Puleo, Albert “Chuck” Orbinati, and Josephine Cortese. The family offers a special thank-you to Virg’s nieces, Mary Ellen and Christine, for the support and care extended to their aunt and uncle. Visitation will be held Monday (today) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John will assemble at the funeral home at 6:30 for ritualistic services. By family request, please omit floral offerings. A meaningful tribute in remembrance of Virginia may be considered in Mass Cards at a parish of choice. Virginia’s funeral service will commence on Tuesday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
