Viola Rose (Podagrosi) Gleasman

Mrs. Viola Rose (Podagrosi) Gleasman, age 94, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 in the comfort of her daughter’s home in East Springfield, NY. Her loving family was by her side at the time of her passing. Born in Holly, New York on March 11, 1914, Viola was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Madeline (Poccia) Podagrosi. She was raised and educated locally and was a graduate of St. Francis De Sales High School. On September 6, 1936 she married Arnold E. Gleasman who passed away on December 31, 1997. Their union of 61 happy years was a joy to them and an inspiration to others. Their family was everything to them. Blessed with a strong work ethic, Viola meticulously cared for her home. An excellent cook, she was very comfortable in her kitchen. In fact, her home was her castle. A very creative woman, Viola was an accomplished piano player and instructor, a talent she nurtured by playing her baby grand piano. She was a devout and faithful Catholic and a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where she was once active in the Altar Rosary Society. Viola is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemarie and John Kabot of New Hartford, and Madeline and Myron Fassett of East Springfield, NY. Always close to her heart was the memory of her daughter, Ann Nassimos, who passed away on October 12, 2005. She also leaves her son and daughter-in-law, Arnold J. “Sonny” and Ann Gleasman of Lake George; her son-in-law, John G. Nassimos of Utica; and her many grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a beloved grandson, Michael Staggs, with whom she shared a special relationship. In addition, she leaves many great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson; a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and sister-in-law, Dorothy Gleasman of Rome. She was predeceased by her brother, Angelo and Dorothy Podagrosi; her sisters, Christina Coppotelli, and Bernice Mauro; and her in-laws, Marvin Gleasman, and Elmer Gleasman, Jr. The family offers heartfelt appreciation to the Catskill Hospice & Palliative Care, and her special nurses, Amy Bromley, Susan Sommers, and Sharon Scanlon. Visitation will be held Friday (today) from 4:00-8:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions in Viola’s honor to a charity of choice; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Viola’s funeral service will commence on Saturday morning at 8:30 from the funeral home and at 9:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will take place in Calvary Mausoleum.
