Vincenza P. "Chancey" (Angrisano) Gelfuso

Mrs. Vincenza P. “Chancey” (Angrisano) Gelfuso, age 80, of Frankfort, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on February 6, 1931, Vincenza was the daughter of the late Joseph R. and Antoinette “Nettie” (Mondi) Angrisano. Raised and educated in Utica, she attended T.R. Proctor High School. On September 6, 1952 she married Thomas R. “Tom” Gelfuso; the two shared a loving, devoted union of 57 years characterized by mutual trust and support. Tom passed away on December 27, 2009. Chancey worked as an administrative secretary at the Griffiss Air Force Base for many years. Her good sense and caring nature combined with her strong will and faith made her a loving matriarch who guided her family, especially her grandchildren, with care and wisdom. She was talented at crafting ceramics, knitting, floral arranging, and growing flowers from seeds with her green thumb. She also enjoyed cooking and gathering her family around the table which brought much enjoyment to her especially at Christmas. She was a member of the Christian Women’s Society and the St. Theresa Society. She was a faithful communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Chancey is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Annette and Thomas Bick, and Regina Waters, all of Frankfort, and Darlene Buttimer of Clifton Park; her sons and daughters-in-law, Louis L. “Lou” and Kim A. Gelfuso of Frankfort, and Tom and Lana Gelfuso of New Hartford; her grandchildren, Joseph and Jennifer Gelfuso, Andrea Gelfuso, Lisa and Chris Dousharm, Melissa and Christopher Abdoo, Vincenza Bick, David Mark Waters and Amber Butler, Justin Daniel Waters, Matthew Buttimer, Lauren Buttimer, J.T. Buttimer, Isabella Gelfuso, and Kasia Gelfuso; and her great-grandchildren, Aryn and Jonah Homer, Chloe Dousharm, Oriana and Audrey Gelfuso; and Danielle and Elizabeth Abdoo. Also left to mourn her passing are her sisters, Nicoletta Fiorentino of New Hartford, and Elaine A. Angrisano of Frankfort; her brother, Aniello “Neal” Angrisano of Frankfort; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, sister-in-law, Rose Pilawa of Syracuse; and her lifelong friends, Dario Monescalchi and Beverly Alteri. She was predeceased by her in-laws, Frank “Jeff” Gelfuso, and Theresa Russo. The family extends sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, and her daughter-in-law, Kim, who treated Vincenza as a mother and offered her special care and attention throughout the years. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Vincenza’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning at 10:30 from the funeral home and at 11:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Anthony P. LaFache. Committal prayers and interment will take place graveside in Frankfort Center Cemetery.
