Mr. Vincent "Jim" Santoro, Sr.

Mr. Vincent “Jim” Santoro, age 78, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Masonic Care Community of NY with his loving family by his side. Born in Pontecorvo, Italy on May 13, 1938, Vincent was the son of the late Celestino “Chester” and Vincenza (Fusco) Santoro. Raised and educated locally, he attended T.R. Proctor High School. On May 13, 1961 he married the former Carolyn L. Whipple with whom he shared 55 years in a blessed bond of love and devotion for his wife and an unwavering commitment to his family. Their union was based on traditions, values, and mutual love. Vinnie possessed an excellent work ethic that he applied at the family landscaping business, Santoro & Sons Landscaping. He also worked at DeVito’s Bakery on Jay Street, and for many years he held a position at M & M Cleaners, a job he truly enjoyed. Vinnie was gentle, good-natured, and genuine. He was sociable and derived great pleasure in patronizing all the local coffee shops. He was meticulous in all his endeavors, especially maintaining his cars. But above all, he was devoted to his wife and cared for her. A true family man, he honored his parents by tending to them throughout the years. Vinnie was a talented musician who graciously gave his gift of organ playing during Mass at the Masonic Home. Vincent is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his children and their partners, Teresa Santoro, Christine and Thomas Bolanowski all of New Hartford, Vincent Santoro Jr. and Mariann Brown of Whitesboro, Richard Santoro of SC, Gina and Chris Simpson, Paula Santoro, and Carrie Santoro and Tony Zysk, all of Utica; also in his heart remained the memory of their baby daughter Angela who passed in 1976; his grandchildren, Anthony, and Corey Jimerson; Carley Ramsey; Michael, Daniel, Andrew, and Chase Santoro; Nicholas Santoro; Danielle, Christopher, Andria Simpson and Elvir Kadic; Brittany Gonzalez, and Addie Zysk; his great-grandsons, Martin Skermont, Benjamin Kadic, and his expected great-granddaughter; and his sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Michael Parrella of Oneonta. His extended family includes his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, several cousins, in-laws Jean and Phil Volpe, Shirley Coppola, Charles and Frances Whipple, Bellevene “Bell” Whipple; and his good friend, James Hibbard. He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas A. and Jeanette Santoro; his niece, Anita Esper; in-laws, James F. Whipple, and William Coppola; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and Harriet Whipple. The family expresses their appreciation to the staff of the Masonic Care Community of NY, especially the Albany and Manhattan households, and his many friends, for the care and comfort they provided. The family will honor Vinnie’s life in a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Vincent’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
