Victoria "Vicky" (Amodio) Montesano

Mrs. Victoria "Vicky" (Amodio) Montesano, age 86, of New Hartford, passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2007, at the Presbyterian Home for CNY, Inc., with the love of her family beside her. Born in Utica on September 17, 1920, Vicky was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Rose (Flecca) Amodio. She was raised and educated locally, and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On October 15, 1947, she exchanged wedding vows with Rocco A. Montesano, and shared with him 59 years of a loving marriage. Their relationship was enhanced with a sense of compatibility and kindness that always warmed their hearts. Focusing on family was their utmost priority. An accomplished stenographer and typist, Vicky was a billing clerk at the former Utica Board of Water Supply at City Hall. She possessed an exceptional work ethic which enabled her to support her loved ones and as a devoted daughter she simultaneously helped her family at their grocery store. The theme of 'family' was instilled in her as a child, and she bestowed the same gift to her children. A woman of great integrity, Vicky "lived" her religion through her altruistic and loving nature. For her good deeds, she expected nothing in return. Her life's accomplishment was to warm the hearts of everyone she knew. This was a characteristic of Vicky's persona that not even her affliction with Alzheimer's could take away. Among her other attributes, she was a talented cook, and enjoyed sharing her culinary delights with family and friends. She was a communicant of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. Vicky is survived by her husband, Rocco. She cherished in her heart the memory of her son, Joseph N. Montesano, who passed away on March 15, 1992 at age 42, leaving behind Vicky's daughter-in-law, Nancy. Also surviving are Vicky's sons and daughters-in-law, Nicholas Paul and Kathy Montesano of New Hartford, Rocco A., Jr. and Jan Montesano of Glenville, NY, and William Stephen and Marilyn Montesano of New Hartford; and her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Fran McDonough of Clinton. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Michael Montesano and his wife, Kristen, Gina Marie Montesano, Stephen Montesano, Scott Montesano, Lauren Montesano, Marie Montesano, Amanda Marie Montesano, Marc Joseph Montesano, Andrea McDonough, and Dylan McDonough; her great-grandchildren, Andrew Montesano, and Casey Montesano; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Sister Mary Nicholas of Utica, Mary and Dr. Carl Marlow of Syracuse, Jean and Frank Barletta of FL; a sister-in-law, Josephine Paladino; Sister Margaret (a special family friend who was considered to be a sister); as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and several cousins. Vicky was favored with a longtime friend and neighbor of Prospect St. in Utica, Jane Vogel, and her friends of the 'Thursday Nighters'. She was predeceased by her in-laws, Anthony J. and Elsie Montesano, Dr. Pasquale and Marie Theresa Montesano, Lucy and Fred Centolella, Lena A. Montesano, Grace Montesano, and Rose Bonadio. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Cedar Wing at the Presbyterian Home for CNY, Inc., and the staff of the Alterra Clare Bridge Cottage of Clinton, NY, for their care and compassion. Visitation will be held Tuesday (today) from 4:007:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Vicky's honor to the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Vicky's funeral service will commence on Wednesday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will take place in Calvary Mausoleum at the convenience of the family.
