Thomas R. "Tom" Gelfuso

Mr. Thomas R. “Tom” Gelfuso, age 86, of Frankfort, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2009 in the comfort and privacy of his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on September 3, 1923, Thomas was the son of the late Louis and Madeline (Turchetti) Gelfuso. Raised and educated locally, he attended Wetmore Elementary School and graduated from T. R. Proctor High School. In St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church on September 6, 1952 he married the former Vincenza Angrisano to whom he was devoted for 57 years. Tom was employed as a Procurement Inspector for the Department of Defense at the Griffiss Air Force Base, retiring in 1986. An easy-going man, he was dedicated to forging family bonds of love and friendship. He was a loyal Yankees fan, a talented woodworker, and at one time a member of the East Utica Fish & Game Club. Committed to his Catholic religion and beliefs, he practiced his faith at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Tom is survived by his wife, Vincenza; his daughters and son-in-law, Annette and Thomas Bick, and Regina Waters, all of Frankfort, and Darlene Buttimer of Clifton Park; his sons and daughters-in-law, Louis S. “Lou” and Kim A. Gelfuso of Frankfort, and Tom and Lana Gelfuso of New Hartford; his grandchildren, Joseph and Jennifer Gelfuso, Andrea Gelfuso, Lisa and Chris Dousharm, Melissa and Christopher Abdoo, Vincenza Bick, David Mark Waters and Amber Butler, Justin Daniel Waters, Matthew Buttimer, Lauren Buttimer, J. T. Buttimer, Isabella Gelfuso, and Kaisia Gelfuso; and his great-grandchildren, Aryn, Jonah, Homer, Oriana, and Audrey Gelfuso; Danielle and Elizabeth Abdoo. Survivors also include his sister, Rose Pilawa of Syracuse; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Anna M. Gelfuso of Utica, Nicoletta Fiorentino of New Hartford, Elaine A. Angrisano, and Aniello “Neal” Angrisano, both of Frankfort; and his dear and close friend, Dario Monescalchi. He was predeceased by his brother, Frank “Jeff” Gelfuso; and his sister, Theresa Russo. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mark Griffing and his wife Sue Griffing, NP, for the tremendous support given to the family; and to Mary Ellen Schrader for all the care and attention rendered to Tom. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Tom’s funeral service will commence on Wednesday afternoon at 12:00 noon from the funeral home and at 1:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Frankfort Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
