Mr. Thomas "Tom" Williams, Jr.

UTICA – Mr. Thomas “Tom” Williams, Jr., age 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 2, 2024. At the time of his passing, his beloved family was by his side. Born in Rome on September 11, 1946, Thomas was the son of the late Thomas, Sr. and Joyce M. (Kimball) Williams. Raised in the area, he attended Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969, during the Vietnam War era. In previous unions to Colleen Rodgers, and then Linda Budlong, Tom was blessed with children. He later found the love of his life in the former Portia Smith. They were wed on November 10, 1986, and shared over 21 years together prior to Portia’s passing on April 25, 2008. Tom held employment at Smith-Lee Co. in Oneida as a paper machine operator. He dedicated over 35 years of service, earning the respect of both his colleagues and superiors before his retirement. Family was the cornerstone of Tom’s life. He was a loving father and grandfather, dependable provider, and always supported his family’s interests. Above all, Tom loved being in nature, especially at his favorite summer site, Blake Lake (near Ogdensburg, NY). He enjoyed camping, playing cards, and fishing. He made many cherished memories hunting with his father, sister, and sons. Tom is survived by his children, Thomas III (Barbara) Williams, Tammy L. Williams, Robert “Bobby” (Heather) Williams, and Joelle M. (Vincent N.) Crescenzo. He treasured the memory of his son, Timothy V. “Tim” Williams, who preceded him on March 12, 2020. He further leaves his memory to his beloved grandchildren who affectionately called him “Papa,” Marissa Williams, with whom he shared a special bond, and who was his constant companion and caretaker. Marissa was inseparable from him since her birth. Additional grandchildren include, Thomas Williams IV, Amanda Williams; Miranda Williams; Michelle Williams, Brooke Williams, and Josephine Crescenzo; two great-grandchildren who brought newfound joy into his heart, Ariahna Williams, and Taliyah Hunter; and sisters, Betty Johnson, Nancy Williams, and Sherry Chaney. He fondly remembered his brother, Wayne Williams, as well as his sister, Cathy Williams, who preceded him. He is additionally survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Abraham House for their outstanding care and attention to Tom and his family.
