Mr. Thomas N. "Tommy" Rastani

MARCY - Mr. Thomas N. “Tommy” Rastani, age 97, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at MVHS at St. Luke’s Healthcare with his loving family at his side. Born in Utica on July 26, 1921, Thomas was the son of the late Caesar and Santina (Adaline) Rastani. He was raised and educated locally. On November 8, 1975 he married the former Sally A. Gotte with whom he shared 42 years in a blessed union filled with beautiful memories. Tommy was a sergeant in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) which he truly enjoyed because of his love for the outdoors. He then worked as an apprentice learning the trade of a bricklayer. He had a strong work ethic and loved to labor in his profession specializing in stone masonry. Tommy was employed by Union Local #2 Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers. He was very loving and affectionate, yet forthright in his viewpoints and opinions. Tommy was honest and never had a false front. Because he was very knowledgeable in many areas of interest, his friends and family loved to pick his brain. He loved the outdoors, was always on his 4-Wheeler, and enjoyed hunting, mushrooming, and snowmobiling. Tommy shared a common interest with his friend Nick Capuana, particularly picking grapes, tending to his vines, and crafting homemade wine. He was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Thomas is survived by his wife, Sally; his daughter, Rhonda J. Lugo of Florida; his son, Thomas N. Rastani, Jr. of Marcy; and his grandchildren, Stephanie Lugo, Kia and John Callaway, and Shawn Lugo, all of Georgia. He also leaves his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, sister-in-law, Carol Brough; and many special friends including Russ and Joanne Schmidt, Dr. Nick and Marilyn Capuana, Donna and Forrest Harper, Andy Putrello, John and Beverly Doolen, and Mike Johnson. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Louis and Annette Rastani, Anthony and Theresa Rastani, Lugo and Marie Rastani, Guy and Cecelia Rastani, John L. and Edith Rastani, and infant brother Charles Rastani; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Francis Amrhein, Angeline and Philip Polizzi, and Theresa and Charles Bonanza; son-in-law, John E. Lugo who passed away in 2010; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Salvatore and Mary Gotte; in-laws, Rita and Donald Sparrow, Rosemary and Willard Lamere, Joanne and John Stokes, and infant Joseph Gotte; and special friend, Kenneth Gotte. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Thomas’ funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum at the convenience of the family.
