Theresa M. (Cardinale) Moccaldi

Mrs. Theresa M. (Cardinale) Moccaldi, age 93, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at The Pines at Utica with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on July 10, 1916, Theresa was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Maria (Camardo) Cardinale. She was raised and educated locally. On November 19, 1938 Theresa married Michael M. Moccaldi with whom she shared 33 years in a blessed union prior to his passing on August 5, 1972. At one time, Theresa worked as a machine operator holding positions at Utica Knit #8, the Kenwell, and the Oneita Knitting Mills. A generous, thoughtful, and kind woman, Theresa loved people and gave so much of herself to others. Though she lacked the wealth of worldly possessions, Theresa was rich with the love of her family and friends. She was proud of her Italian heritage, and honored her ethnic traditions with much elegance and kindness, especially by baking during the holidays. She was affectionately known as the “Macaroni Lady”, renowned for her talents of making pasta which she so graciously shared. During her spare time, she loved to crochet. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Theresa is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary J. and Rodger Pape, Sr. of Whitesboro. Always close to her heart was the memory of her daughter, Shirley R. Sheibley, who passed away on September 21, 1990. She also leaves her son, Joseph P. Moccaldi of Utica and his fiancée, Debra Larkin. Theresa also mourned the passing of her four sons, Michael Moccaldi, who passed away on September 25, 1991, Robert Moccaldi, September 9, 1998, Patrick J. Moccaldi, August 21, 2001, and James F. Moccaldi, December 23, 2003. In addition, she leaves her 21 grandchildren, especially acknowledging her granddaughter, Cheryl King, for her loving visits; and her special grandchildren, Rodger Jr. and Amy Pape of West Winfield, Marianne Pape of Myrtle Beach, SC, Caitlyn, Rachel, and Brady Moccaldi of Clinton, Stacy of Utica, Patrick, Bonnie, and Collene all of FL, and David, Teddy, Michael, Michelle, and Bobby all of Harrisburg, PA. Survivors also include her 26 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Rose M. Jalowiec, and Carmella “Cookie” Biasi, both of New Hartford; her brother, Raymond F. Cardinale of New Hartford; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Louise Moccaldi, and daughter-in-law, Mona Moccaldi of Florida. She also leaves her special friends, Roseanne Convertino, Lisa Blindenhofer, who was like a granddaughter, George Convertino, who was like a son, Peter Cardone who often visited, and Mary Gately, a lifelong friend. She was predeceased by her in-laws, Theresa M. “Tesha” Cardinale, Joseph and Mary “Minnie” Moccaldi, James Moccaldi, Theresa and Joseph Cittadino, Eileen and Martin Moccaldi, Anthony and Carminella “Minnie” DeMatteo, Charles Biasi, and John Jalowiec. The family is grateful to the nurses and staff of the 3rd floor at the Pines at Utica, especially acknowledging Valerie, Laurie, Mary, Vanessa, Sylvia, Elisha, Nancy, and Polly, P.T., for their kindness and dedication to Theresa. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:30-7:30 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Theresa’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday evening at 7:30 at the funeral home immediately upon the conclusion of visitation with Rev. Joseph Salerno officiating. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery.
