Theresa Ann (DelGenis) Valenti

Mrs. Theresa Ann (DelGenis) Valenti, age 82, of New Hartford, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on June 26, 1928, Theresa was the daughter of the late Anthony and Angeline (Scianni) DelGenis. She was raised and educated in Utica and attended Utica Free Academy. On April 26, 1947 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church she married Fred R. Valenti with whom she shared a wonderful marriage graced with love; the joy and success of their 63 years together was the result of their united effort in putting the family first and working through any difficult circumstances. At one time, Theresa worked at the General Electric Company. As Theresa and Fred began their family, she focused her energies at home. A very organized and practical woman, she was a meticulous homemaker, detailed in all her tasks, both big and small. Theresa was a beautiful person inside and out, and her house was open to family and friends in need. She was also a doting grandmother and served as the family seamstress. She was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church in New Hartford. Theresa is survived by her beloved husband, Fred; her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and William Tracey, Sr. of Colorado Springs, CO; her son and daughter-in-law, Fred A. and JoAnn Valenti; her cherished grandchildren, Lynn Howard, and William Jr. and Sally Tracey, all of CO, Fred and Kristi Tracey of Castle Creek, NY, Scott and Christine Tracey of FL, and Christina Valenti, and Michael Valenti, both of Marcy, with whom Theresa was instrumental in their upbringing; and her 11 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her sisters, Victoria Argen of NY Mills, Josephine Polak of Utica, and Angela Jweid of New Hartford; her brother, Tony DelGenis of Utica who shared a supportive and caring bond with Theresa and Fred; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, an aunt, Mary Palmiero of Utica, and in-laws, Josephine DiNigro, Joseph Valenti, Anthony Valenti, and Rosemary Valenti, all of Utica. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Joseph Dragotto; her baby brother, Joseph; her in-laws, Daniel S. Valenti, Marie Rose and Gerardo Durso, Carmella Dubeck, Antoinette Vitale, Dominick Valenti, Eugene Valenti, Biase “John” Valenti, James Valenti, Joan Valenti, Louis Jweid, Edward Polak, and Elizabeth DelGenis. The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center and Dr. Daniel Goodman for their compassion and guidance. In keeping with her wishes, Theresa’s family will honor and celebrate her life in a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 at St. Thomas Church in New Hartford where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. David Sears. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
