Mrs. Theresa (Coriale) Marcantonio

Mrs. Theresa (Coriale) Marcantonio, a life long Utican, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the Masonic Care Community of NY in the presence of her devoted sister Carmel, and her extended family. Theresa was the daughter of the late Dominick and Maria (Gioia) Coriale. Raised and educated locally, she was a 1930 graduate of Utica Free Academy. She continued her academic studies at the Oneonta State Teachers College graduating in 1933 with a life certificate in Elementary Education. On May 5, 1941 she married John Marcantonio; they were well-suited for one another and honored each other’s life style which made for a harmonious relationship. Her beloved John passed away on December 29, 1966. Theresa began her professional career as a teacher with the Utica City School District in 1934. During her tenure with the Department of Education, she served as an evening school Teacher and Principal. Concurrently, she carried out her duties as a full time elementary education teacher. She mentored her students with dedication until her retirement in 1977. Theresa was a compassionate educator, touching the minds of the youth she taught, always loving them as her borrowed children. Through the years she was also loyal in assisting in the family business, Coriale Flowers. She had an affiliation with the Retired Utica Teachers Association, New York State United Teachers, National Retired Teachers Association, First Source Federal Credit Union, and the No Sew Club. A woman of fortitude and grace, she was motherly in her love, support and ability to keep all those she held close. Theresa was blessed with culinary talents and abilities that were delectable. The testimony of her life will continue to be a blessing to many. She practiced her Catholic faith at St. Agnes Parish and was a member of the Christ Child Society at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Her legacy will be remembered by her sister, Carmel C. Martucci with whom she shared a home; her nieces and nephews, Carol and Henry Veit, Anthony and Barbara Martino, Charles and Christine Ricci, Peter Ricci, Michael and Angela Ricci, Joey and Rich Failla, Darlene Manley, and Coryelle Kramer; great-nieces, great-nephews, several great-great nieces, great-great nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Lt. Francis and Josephine Coriale, and Edward and Pat Coreyale; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Fenita C. & Chester Martino, Antoinette and Charles Ricci, Rose L. Coriale, and Marie Banks; and her in-laws, Vito R. Martucci, and Carrie & George S. Marchitelli. The entire staff of the Masonic Care Community of NY were amazing and their kindness will never be forgotten; Theresa’s social worker Joanne Kujawski was most accommodating and understanding; and the entire staff of the Westchester Household were marvelous, compassionate, loving and respectful. Sincere appreciation is expressed to Gary Givonetti, and Deacon Bill Dischiavo for their spiritual guidance. Carmel also wishes to thank and acknowledge Tino Poccia, Mary Pelli Maggio, Jody Martucci, Donna Rosado, and Colleen Levesque. Each one of their efforts enabled Carm to find comfort and support during this time of Theresa’s journey. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:30-12:00 noon at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Memorial contributions may be considered to the Masonic Care Community of NY, 2150 Bleecker Street Utica, NY 13501, in appreciation of their good care; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Theresa’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Wednesday at 12:00 from the funeral home and at 1:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. Entombment will take place privately in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
