Theresa (Guidi) Pinto

Mrs. Theresa (Guidi) Pinto, age 93, of New Hartford, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2006, in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side. Born in Canajoharie, NY on March 12, 1912, Theresa was the daughter of the late Augustino and Faustina (Fiore) Guidi. When she was a child, her family moved to Herkimer, NY where she was raised and educated. It was there on October 12, 1940 that she married John R. Pinto. Theresa and John shared a mutually devoted union of 45 years prior to his passing on January 19, 1986. At one time Mrs. Pinto held a position as a nurse's aide at the Masonic Home. It was obvious to all who knew her that the foremost priorities in her life were her family and her home. Gifted with a generous and unselfish nature, she attended to all their concerns and saw to all their needs. After raising her daughter, which was her greatest accomplishment, Theresa experienced a renewal of the rewards of family upon the arrival of her grandchildren who looked upon her as a second mother. She shared a special closeness with them. Some years after, when her great-grandson was born, he became a blessing for her later years and one of the greatest joys in her entire life. Theresa will always be remembered with special love and affection for her meticulous habits, her youthful nature, and her active and lively manner. In addition, she was a deeply spiritual woman: ever faithful in her daily prayers, she always trustingly sought the intercession of her favorite saints, especially St. Francis. In her leisure time, Theresa enjoyed the simple things in life, such as sitting in the comfort of her own living room, carrying on the ritual of Saturday morning pancakes and syrup, delighting in the pleasure of sharing wine-and-cheese, or appreciating all kinds of music, especially the Big Band Sound which brought her wonderful memories of bygone days. Like her favorite saint, Theresa loved animals, especially her grandchildren's dogs, Chico and Sidney, whom she thought was "smarter than most people." Mrs. Pinto is survived by her daughter, who was always a special blessing in her life, and her son-in-law, Carol and Ernest Slocum of New Hartford; her beloved grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as "Gigi," John Sr. and Kathy Fava of Whitesboro, and Teresa (Fava) and Francis X. Schram, with whom she shared a home; and her cherished great-grandson, John Richard Fava, Jr. She is also survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jane and LeRoy Michel of Utica, and Carrie Mackin of Rochester; her nephews and nieces, especially Beth Williamson who provided her aunt with her professional help and personal love; her great-nephews, great-nieces; and her in-laws, including Eleanor Guidi. She was predeceased by three brothers, James, Floyd, and Albert Guidi; and two sisters, Antoinette and Jean, and several in-laws. The family offers its gratitude to Dr. Scott Brehault for his conscientiousness and compassion in attending Theresa and her family; his thoughtfulness will never be forgotten. Thanks also to Father Felix for his visit and prayers which were so meaningful. In addition, very special words of appreciation are extended to Theresa's granddaughter Teresa and her husband for everything they did to care for Theresa and to enhance the quality of her life. Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 4-6 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Theresa's name to Spring Farm Cares; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Celebration of Theresa's Life which will be conducted at the funeral home this evening at 6:00 immediately upon the conclusion of calling hours. Father Felix Colosimo will officiate at the service. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
