Thelma "T.R." Roy

Thelma “T.R.” Roy, age 72, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2007, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on October 26, 1934, Thelma was the daughter of the late Albert and Louise (Lewis) Roy. T.R. was raised and educated locally. At one time she had been married to Nicholas J. Mariano, Sr. A local restauranteur for over 25 years, she operated T.R.’s Afterhours located on Bleecker St. She was famous for her “original Giam Botte”, her Hi, Honey! hospitality, her good humor, and a place where her customers were her friends. With her own style and grace, T.R. had the ability to diplomatically defuse any situation with her patrons. Concurrently, for a number of years, she held a position at Sunrise Meats in Clark Mills. A hardworking woman, she also had the virtues of being accepting, honest, fun-loving, and true to her friends. She had a good heart, and a free-willed personality which will be testimony to the many memories she leaves behind. During her leisure time, she enjoyed games of chance. She was proud to provide advice and wisdom to her children and instill in them the ability to recognize the importance of family and the need to be close, and she treasured her recent relationships with her grandchildren. T.R. was proud of her faith, her heritage, and most of all, her children. She was a communicant of St. Louis Gonzaga Church. Thelma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Salvatore “Cy” Rotundo of Frankfort; and her son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas J. Jr. and Lois Mariano of New Hartford. Sitto loved her grandchildren, Salvatore, Jr., and Nicole Rotundo. Also surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Margaret Roy of Vernon; her nieces and nephews, including Albert and Michelle Roy, and Stephany and Doug Rozsa; her great-nieces and great-nephews, including Caden Roy; her cousins, especially Barb Spinella; her aunts and uncles, especially Maureen Lewis; and her longtime friends, Barb Ziezio, Congetta DiPierro, Jimmy Luvera, and Cleveland. She was predeceased by her friend, Tony Shaheen. The family wishes to thank Dr. Dilip Kachare, the Intensive Care Unit, Special Care Unit, and 3A at St. Elizabeth Medical Center for the attentive concern and personal compassion they shared with T.R. Gratitude is extended to Father Bassam Saade for his daily visits and his friendship – his smile brightened her day – and Deacon Paul Salamy for his personal concern and comfort. Visitation will be held on Sunday (today) from 2-5 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The Prayer of Incense will be offered on Sunday at 4:45 p.m. at the funeral home. For those wishing to do so, memorial donations in Thelma’s honor may be made to St. Louis Gonazaga Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Thelma’s funeral service will commence on Monday at 12:00 noon from the funeral home and at 1:00 at St. Louis Gonzaga Church, where the Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated by Father Bassam Saade, Pastor. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
