Thelma C. Mutolo

Thelma “Donna” C. Mutolo, age 76, of Utica, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly after a brief illness, in the comfort of her home on Thursday, September 21, 2006. Born in Utica on November 10, 1929, Thelma was the daughter of the late Joseph and Domenica (Sardina) Mutolo. She was raised and educated locally and was a graduate of Thomas R. Proctor High School. She furthered her studies at M.V.C.C., attaining an Associates degree in Applied Science. At one time, Donna held a position with the Gorea Trucking Co. as a bookkeeper. Subsequently, she worked at St. Elizabeth Medical Center as an administrative secretary and director of the volunteer department for a period of 29 years, from which she retired. Concurrently, she was employed as a receptionist with the Eden Park Nursing Facility. As a supportive, loving, and warm-hearted woman, Donna was always faithful to her loved ones. She was a trustworthy friend, who always offered superior advice and soothing comfort, and was blessed with a special sense of humor. She enjoyed traveling, and was involved in many social and civic organizations. She was a member of the Christ Child Society of Utica; a member of Elder Life Senior Center; past president of the Business Professional Women’s Club; and block captain for her neighborhood watch group. She offered her time as a pollster, and she served as a proctor during the administration of NY State GED Exams. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Donna is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Salvatore and Gertrude Mutolo of Baltimore, MD; her nieces and nephews, Joseph Mutolo, Mamie Cornachia, Natalie Kuczek, and Douglas Mutolo; many great-nieces and great-nephews, especially acknowledging Michelle and Joseph Morelli, Michael Basi, Joseph and Darlene Basi, and James Basi, all of whom considered Donna as a mother; also, great-nieces and great-nephews, including Christopher Mutolo, Kristin Mutolo, Matthew Mutolo, Jennifer Mutolo, and Michael Mutolo; her great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, Shea, Michael, Rocco, Joseph, Samantha, Salvatore, and James; many cousins, especially acknowledging Sue Frasca and her family; and her many special friends, including childhood friends Tillie and George Ruben, Rosalie Marchitelli, Sylvia Madia, Gertie Gagliano, and Scott Coombs. She was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Julio and Mary Mutolo, and her nephew, Joseph Mutolo. The family offers its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Benjamin Himpler, Dr. Fred Talerico and Nurse Practitioner Patricia Rosati, for their care, concern, and professionalism. Thanks also to the Utica Police Department and Rescue One for their timely response and valiant efforts. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-5 at the Eannace Funeral Home, 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Donna’s funeral will commence on Monday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery. As a generous person. here are some words Donna embraced whole-heartedly: "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can."
